What is a good sleeping pill?

I seriously need to go to my doctor's to get prescription, I can't some with the insomnia. What pill is better for long term use?

melatonin works really good and you dont have to constantly take it. only for like a week or two. you just take it consistently around the time you want to sleep and eventually you will automatically get sleepy at that time. it resets your inner sleep clock. really helps until it gets thrown off again probably by overuse of stimulants or whatever. i used to take 6 mg. my daughter has been prescribed 8 mg before to take at bedtime. when i was taking it i'd be out in 15 minutes.

The only thing I'd recommend for long term use is the anti histamines that have drowsiness as a side effect. Everything else builds tolerance and dependence, and doesn't actually give you the 'real' sleep you need.

Have some relaxing tea at least 2 hours before trying to sleep. I recommend “Tension tamer tea”. Just to get your body to relax.

And then take a pill.

Try Valerian root ? Or melatonin? Those two supply are pretty good.

Ambien worked until insurance took it away because once you turn a certain age you become a fall risk.
@SageWanderer what does fall risk mean?
SageWanderer · 70-79, M
@RadiantRuby When you get older and maybe a little less stable on your feet plus bones get brittle as you age. At 65 my insurance carrier will no longer pay for sleeping pills.

@SageWanderer That, and the major tendency of it to induce sleep walking and blacking out. Great stuff

Sorry you can't sleep.

@RadiantRuby I could not sleep, so got up at 2 AM.

But I have been getting a lot of sleep this weekend, and taking a lot of naps. I have not left my apartment in two days. Too cold.
@JoyfulSilence it's freezing and horrible here too

@RadiantRuby I have to go back to work today (Monday was a holiday). It is supposed to "feel like" 13 F when I step out.

Mirtzapine. I’ve been on it for about 3 years and it works a treat.
