Why do people get into atheism? [Spirituality & Religion]

I few years ago I moved town and I started hanging round with Atheists. I guess I was just trying to fit in I guess but pretty soon I decided I didnt like being Atheist and it made me feel silly. Looking back, it was justa phase I was going through. Why do atheists do it?

because they do not believe in the existence of any god.
You don't 'get into' any belief system... Its what you believe.
I was a Catholic, an atheist, agnostic and now a spiritualist and as I moved through belief systems I've realized that they are all valid and I find it strange that any adult cannot comprehend that tbh.
When I was a teenage atheist I found it strange anyone could believe in a god but then I grew up and expanded my mind

@MushroomFaerie well said!
@SW-User thankyou 😄
newsflash atheism is not a trend. It's not like it's a counter culture people join up with the way the Hippies were kind of a movement that people do for the Hipster appeal of it.

We straight up don't believe. It's not even a choice, you're either one of us or you're not.

People act like Atheism is a lifestyle but it's not.

We just don't believe.

Atheism isn't a thing people get into, it's the default position when they haven't got into religion.
I'm an Anarchist. That in itself is Atheism since a true Anarchist denounces both religion and government.

It goes a lot deeper than this, but 96% of people won't get it so I won't bother explaining further.

This is a response after you evaluate the proofs presented by theists. The claim of theists is that there is a god, but I was never presented with enough evidence in order to believe that. As it was already pointed out, this is not a decision, you do not choose any of your beliefs. You either believe it or not. I heard so many religious people talking about atheists as rebels or similar - it is not a rebellion, that is just a nonsense claim. We strongly believe (and i must say i also have good evidence) that the foundation upon which the religions have been built is really bad, and in many cases the religion prevents humans to feel and care for each other properly.

Atheism to me is a pill against a contagion that seeks to kill me, iow's convert. It's something i just take when i need it, i perhaps od'ed on it a few years ago .... as to why, they may be validly concerned with the harm that beliefs cause, as with extreme versions, or as with me see it plainly as a poison that infects, and is then a part of one some of the time and is all complicated, a detached viewpoint cancels out any need for carrying any hard line about it or it's opposite. iow's, apathy, a numbness.

Just like every other religion: some feel that way and it makes sense to them more than any other option. Some simply want to belong. Some are lazy and take it because it's the simple answer and don't have to think for themselves, they learned some science in school why try and think for themselves and wonder beyond that? ... Each person has their own reasons we can't put an atheist label on all of them and judge them.

Lol..... sounds exactly like what an atheist would say about someone who believes in God.

We are all born atheists and then some children are indoctrinated into various religions and belief systems.

If you do not teach a child about gods, in these enlightened times they will never have cause or need to believe in them.

Personally I've never understood why anyone would follow obviously made up religions designed to control an uneducated populace.
I used to be atheistic. I don't know how others come to be atheists, but for me, I couldn't believe in a God who would allow my parents to treat me the way they did. How could God possibly allow that to happen? So, I turned away from God to find some kind of life on my own that was better.
In my experience there are two types of atheists and agnostics.

One is of a philosophical confession. And there are three types here. One has investigated the world and life and has decided that there is no God. The second has decided that God simply isn't necessary for life or to explain the world. The third has decided that there is no way to know, so it's a largely irrelevant question.

And then there are those of a social confession. They have looked at the world and have decided that there is so much damage inflicted by religion that one is better off without it.

It's not exactly a fad. People have come to these same types of conclusions as long as the written record of human experience goes back.
I didn't "get into" it. I just don't believe in religion. 💁

I feel like it's some form of rebellion. I noticed that some atheist especially if they are young is just a phase.
Atheism isn’t really something to “get into”. The only requirement is not believing in a deity. It doesn’t even have to be a specific deity that one doesn’t believe in.
