How worried are you about Border Security ?

Why/ Why Not?
hertoy · 70-79, M Best Comment
Even though I live 1300 miles from the border, my concern is for America's culture, sovereignty, crime rates, slackers taking hard earned tax dollars they didn't earn, using resources that they don't deserve, and illegally voting. We have much more to lose than we could gain.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@JoeyFoxx They also participate in the economy and spend nearly all the money they make. And the ones working under the table don’t pay income taxes - but lower consumer prices. There are kinds of ways to aggregate these things. And they also have kids which make their own impact down the toad, but also present upfront costs, etc etc.

It’s a supremely hard thing to quantify, and methodologies seem really complicated. They say overall aggregate economic impact is positive, but it’s hard to say what goes into that.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
That much I knew. The aggregate impact is likely to help the overall economic productivity.

I’m not a fan of painting them as mere victims though.

@JoeyFoxx Drop by any post office or Western Union office on Saturday morning and see where their dollars are going.

Not at all. We are all immigrants, or decedents of immigrants. Even the "Native" Americans came over from Asia.
@Steve42 100% agree!
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Steve42 Not all immigrants are created equal.

The founders of the country came to a land where there was no infrastructure. They had to create something from nothing but opportunity.

Until the 20th century, social programs and a commitment from hospitals to turn no one away didn't exist.

The notion that we are all immigrants is a bit of a red herring.

Also note that there are MANY immigrants who come here legally and go through the hell of being on a visa/green card waiting list for sometimes over a decade.

We DO need a more rational immigration program. But if there is going to be a challenge to Trump supporters implying that all immigrants are criminals, they there should also be a challenge that all immigrants have the same level of dedication and willingness to make this a stronger country.
Not at all. As someone already said we are all technically immigrants!
@river52 People coming here in the past took advantage of those already living here. We may suspect that motive of those coming here now, but we know it for certain of those former immigrants and settlers.
river52 · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard yes.....immigrants pushed the Native Americans further west but do you really think that compares to what is happening now ??? Come on.......
@river52 It doesn’t compare, because in the past it was accepted, with no laws against it. The Native Americans had no recourse. There are laws now, and as I said from the onset, since I support the rule of law, the existing immigration laws should be upheld, or if they are unjust, changed...not circumvented.

Not much. I'm more worried about gun violence and the corrupt US government.

I'm worried by a LOT of things about it. The level of worry is the same level I give to the deaths of strangers, and to the endangerment of people I don't really know. 4 alarm, not 5.

1. Fentanyl that kills with skin exposure of even one microscopic grain. And I don't give a flying fart if it is coming in through ports of entry or elsewhere on the border, and I don't want to argue about where it is coming in or why this isn't a problem.

2. Criminals that are entering, undocumented, killing people and sexually abusing children. And I don't want to hear any stupid BS about how that is all right, because there are a lot of US citizens who are also criminals. We certainly don't need to import any more.

3. Traffickers who are enslaving women and children of both sexes to work in illegal sweat shops and in the sex trade against their will. They are NOT coming in through the ports of entry.

4. HUGE numbers of people from South America who are coming up here and putting themselves in incredible danger to do so, risking the lives of their children, and endangering their own health with a total disregard for our laws and no respect for our wishes.

5. Unvaccinated and undocumented children entering our school systems, bringing with them diseases like measles that were eradicated from the United States 40 years ago, and are now spreading again like an epidemic because so many parents thought they didn't NEED to vaccinate their children....thought they were safe. One in every 1000 sufferers from measles dies.

6. DEEP concern that our existing social systems will crash and burn from being overloaded by the massive influx of people sucking on the freebies. The entitlements system will have less and less money, our struggling schools will be strained to the breaking point, and our medicaid system will crash, putting our own citizens at risk.

It's funny. People here are very concerned about border security. Legit. But they seem indifferent to the hundreds of undocumented workers doing construction, farm work, roofing. They'll nut over punishing sanctuary cities, some high profile ICE deportations. But what's in front of their eyes they don't or can't see.

Not to mention a 5500 mile northern border that is not secured. Why is there no urgency to build that wall? I wonder. It’s a mystery. 🤔

Not worried at all

You better believe it

The whole thing has been blown out of proportion. In fact, illegal border crossings are at a rather low level. This is all politics, built or not built, it isn't going to mean much either way.
Nothing I can’t get past

Not really worried at all. Border crossings are at a 50 year low, and we’ve been just fine these last 50 years.
[c=#359E00]is this for US citizen only or i can answer it too?[/c]

Intensely relaxed.

I think we need it at chokepoints. High population areas.

I’m surprised we can’t do good job of protecting the boarders with drones by now.
Starcrossed · 41-45, F
About them overstepping and us becoming a military state...?
DDonde · 31-35, M
Indifferent.
I have some concerns. But not for the racist reasons Trump has.
