Even though I live 1300 miles from the border, my concern is for America's culture, sovereignty, crime rates, slackers taking hard earned tax dollars they didn't earn, using resources that they don't deserve, and illegally voting. We have much more to lose than we could gain.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@hertoy Illegal immigrants lower our crime rates 😂 And pay in more than they cost.

Don’t know about culture, but I sure appreciate their cuisine.

@QuixoticSoul Another one sprinkling fentanyl on his pâté de foie gras I see.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649 Why are you accusing me of a conservative vice? We smoke weed here in cali. Fent is your thing.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@QuixoticSoul California----the land of fruits and nuts.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649 It's ok to be jealous - we are better than you after all 🤷‍♂️
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@QuixoticSoul Got your poopy map yet?
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649 Awww, that's cute. We're still the fifth largest economy in the world, and you're from Florida.
sunsporter1649 · 70-79, M
@QuixoticSoul You need all that economy to produce the maps and pay for crews to clean up the streets of poop and needles.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@sunsporter1649 k floridaman 👌

@hertoy How telling that you mention American culture as the first thing to be threatened.
river52 · 70-79, M
@sunsporter1649 ...don't forget vegetables and wine...yeah we feed over half of the US
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@river52 We have a reasonably strong agriculture sector - but push come to shove it would be a hell of a lot easier to replace for our customers than, say, Intel. Or Google.

@QuixoticSoul hang on... what?
And pay in more than they cost.
If they are illegal.. they can't pay taxes and they would be exempt from most sales tax since food and clothing are generally not taxed.

So... explain this. Not sure where this one comes from.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@JoeyFoxx Yes, illegal immigrants pay millions in taxes each year and can't reap the benefits of those programs paid for by them.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@JoeyFoxx Clothing is taxed in nearly every state except for a few.

And illegal immigrants don’t just buy food and clothing. They buy all kinds of stuff, from all kinds of places like most people do.

On top of that, people working with fake papers have their income withheld but don’t claim refunds, and aren’t eligible for social security or other benefits. That’s about half of them, btw.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
@Graylight @QuixoticSoul
Fascinating. I literally didn't know this.

With that said, illegal immigrants are certainly the benefactors of roads, public transit, emergency hospital care and many other government expenditures, so it's not accurate that they are contributing and getting nothing back.

However, I can see the underlying point.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@JoeyFoxx They also participate in the economy and spend nearly all the money they make. And the ones working under the table don’t pay income taxes - but lower consumer prices. There are kinds of ways to aggregate these things. And they also have kids which make their own impact down the toad, but also present upfront costs, etc etc.

It’s a supremely hard thing to quantify, and methodologies seem really complicated. They say overall aggregate economic impact is positive, but it’s hard to say what goes into that.
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
That much I knew. The aggregate impact is likely to help the overall economic productivity.

I’m not a fan of painting them as mere victims though.

@JoeyFoxx Drop by any post office or Western Union office on Saturday morning and see where their dollars are going.
