Not at all. As someone already said we are all technically immigrants!

@GuitarGhostDK who were all held, checked and cleared at Ellis Island and then later through a Immigration system.......
@river52 Not pre-Ellis Island. Those Europeans just showed up.
@river52 yeah I'm talking during the formation of what is now the US.

@bijouxbroussard come on now, that was before there was a United States of America
@river52 Noo, Ellis Island opened in 1892, over 100 years afterwards.

so over 100 years ago it was decided that we needed to vet immigrants who were coming into our Country......so what happened that some people think we don't need to do this anymore?

@bijouxbroussard and you already posted that your are sick of the sanctuary city laws in your State....where Police won't check a criminal's immigration status....so what exactly is your stand on all this??
@river52 I am, and I acknowledge that the existing immigration laws should either be followed or changed, if they are unfair—not flouted. But there are two other realities: This is not Europe, and most of the people who are complaining the hardest about immigrants are not the descendants of Native Americans. And many are the descendants of those who came before Ellis Island, when European immigrants were not being vetted.

@bijouxbroussard add to that the reality that the World is a different place now. Some might say that in the past, people came here to make a better life for them selves where today a lot of people come here for a free ride at taxpayers expense.
@river52 People coming here in the past took advantage of those already living here. We may suspect that motive of those coming here now, but we know it for certain of those former immigrants and settlers.

@bijouxbroussard yes.....immigrants pushed the Native Americans further west but do you really think that compares to what is happening now ??? Come on.......
@river52 It doesn’t compare, because in the past it was accepted, with no laws against it. The Native Americans had no recourse. There are laws now, and as I said from the onset, since I support the rule of law, the existing immigration laws should be upheld, or if they are unjust, changed...not circumvented.
