I Have Been In Prison

I was 18 when I went to prison for the first time. Given nine months for Assault with intent to resist arrest and shop lifting. Was released on probation after five months but was back inside within four weeks having broken the terms of my probation. Spent my 21st birthday behind bars for assault and robbery with an 18month sentence. Third and final time when I was 24, I was in for three months for my old favorite crime of shoplifting.

Sorry to hear you had your birthday behind bars. If I was a judge I wouldn't be that stone-hearted, I'd sentence you to begin jail the next day after your birthday. These callous judges should be locked up themselves for not treating birthdays as sacred.
@Crazychick You are very kind hearted.
Crazychick · 36-40, F
@littlepuppywantanewlife I know, and I want everybody else to be as well.
@Crazychick That's very nice of you. I try to be fair as well. I would rather try to get best in a person rather then punishing them. I want to take away pain and make everyone laugh. 🙂😅
I consider myself to be kind and thoughtful, but after conviction on two assaults and theft as well, I would not give much thought to a missed birthday celebration.

I like the 'final time' phrase. Hope your life is much better now!
@Lostpoet Am not.

@Mamapolo2016 Lol. i read it wrong i thought you were saying you also had to convictions.
@Lostpoet On the other hand, there, but for the grace of God, go I.

Once in the system, it is too easy to stay in. The “Corrective” system hasn’t been designed to help someone ever since ronnie reagan emphasized punishment over help.
I processed an inmate who had been in prison 17 different times. i was like "Welcome back !!!" He just kinda laughed. I think he was used to hearing that. Just about every admission was for Driving While Impaired. Just a matter of time before he kills himself or someone else.

@YourMomsSecretCrush Shouldn't there be something besides "prison" for such behaviors. How about boarding school? Or maybe a special community where no alcohol is available, to anyone? Or made to live in a place where there are no vehicles? Why prison?
@Heartlander after looking at the statistics regarding deaths caused by drunk drivers it apprears that drunk driving is one of the most dangerous and reckless things you can do. And those who do it over and over and over have little regard for those who could be killed by their actions.
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@YourMomsSecretCrush Agree. And when people get arrested for DWI, the emphasis is on getting him/her off the hook for one more chance. Employers will petition the judge, family, even the church minister. The emphasis should be on preventing it from happening again, ever. If they get jail time the people who suffer are the family, kids, employers, etc. The threat of jail with DWI doesn't serve as a deterrent. The proof is in the pudding.
If they’d have cut off your right hand the first time you were caught thieving, would you have done it again?

Sorry that my comment made you upset and that I didn't consider your situation in the proper context.

I was caught shoplifting and mom nearly killed me🤷‍♀️
Lynn1976 · 46-50, F
@SW-User Ouch!
Heartlander · 80-89, M
That was like 12+ years ago. Sounds like you figured out what you were doing wrong and adjusted.

After just watching a few prison movies, I'm inclined to think of "prison" as having less to do with rehabilitation and more to do with further victimizing the misfortunes.
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
I can't tell if you are proud or boasting... or both. Or, lying (no offense).
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@BlueVeins 😕
BlueVeins · 22-25
@MarkPaul what
MarkPaul · 26-30, M
@BlueVeins Nothing...
MrSmooTh · 31-35, M
Well you shouldn't have done stupid shit. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Don't do it again and you won't have to worry about prison.
Lynn1976 · 46-50, F
How have things been since? I was caught shoplifting once when I was 13.
AtlanticAlice · 41-45, F
@Lynn1976 I fell pregnant at 24 and that was the catalyst for myself and my partner to change our lifestyle
Lynn1976 · 46-50, F
@AtlanticAlice That was the only real illegal thing I ever did. I never was charged but did have to go home with my mother. I actually joined the Naval Reserve at 18 while I was in university.
Lostpoet · M
Prison doesn't sound like a nice place to be i hope it didn't change you.
@Lostpoet I think she was talking her youth mistakes which she isn't proud of.
benJohnson99 · 18-21, M
So sorry to see that happened to you hope prison is a thing of the past for you x

@AtlanticAlice 👍👍 Fantastic
That sucks! Did you do all that for living and were you alone?
So what is your life plan now. Have you been good and stayed out prison
I’m too scared to answer in case you hit me.
uncleshawn · 41-45, M

TheLordOfHell · 41-45
Ah. Not the place to be, hey?
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
I have a friend who somehow got away with shoplifting for twenty years. Never did get how he did it.
Lynn1976 · 46-50, F
@LordShadowfire When I did it as a kid, it was only for the thrill. I obviously wasn't that good at it.
AtlanticAlice · 41-45, F
@Lynn1976 for a while there it felt like a profession for me
Lynn1976 · 46-50, F
@AtlanticAlice Of course when I eventually was caught, I maintained that is was my first time, to try and mitigate my potential punishment at home.
