I Have Nostalgia For The Past

It’s too bad real life isn’t more like a late-60s/early-70s sitcom - like the Brady Bunch. The early 70s were a great time. I was a little girl. Life was simpler. There were more reasons for optimism. All week I’ve been thinking about my early childhood, and thinking maybe that really was the best part of my life.

Though I was born a few years later and grew up in the 70's and 80's, I can relate. I remember feeling a lot more optimistic back then too. Anything seemed possible, if we just kept working hard enough, long enough.

I can't say that my childhood was the best part of my life though. I think my late 20's and early 30's were better. I still hope that we can make things better, but I know that it's not going to be easy.

@TeresaRudolph71 I also liked college. And I liked my 40s. So there were some other good parts of my life, besides early childhood.

@SmartKat College was interesting, and fun at times. I hope there will be more good times to come, though the future does scare me a little.

I remember there was a sense of optimism then. Maybe it was the space programme, the music, new technology... We could do with some of that spirit now🤷‍♂️

@TheConstantGardener I don't really care how it sounds...I grow tired of males mansplaining my life experiences as a woman STILL fighting for equality. You know what you read...that's all you know and it is skewed.

@Fernie You seem to know a lot about what I know 🤔

@TheConstantGardener oh, man...you are SO typical. Bye now
We, the flower children of the 60's and beatniks before us in the late 40's and 50's. were the original DREAMERS! The only generation in time to come close to use was that of the first French Renaissance.

We, as youth, often as teens and slightly older, brought about much needed change and we forced courts and politicians to rethink their outdated ideas.

We were dreamers, first and foremost. We want and end to war-all wars in any nation. We wanted peace. World peace. We wanted love to rule the day and acceptance for all. We were eternal optimists-in me that has not changed! And many of my generation! We were activists who knew how to bring about change.

It was a generation, a feeling, a movement, and a time when the youth ruled the country that will never be repeated. Until the 4th French renaissance. Maybe.

It is WHY music of the 50 and 60's still remain so vital today!

Not much has changed since 1965. You better start swimmin’ or you’ll sink like a stone for The times-they are a-changing.

When adulthood has you in a stranglehold most of us like to escape to those time when we felt safe and cared for. We didn't make any decisions. No social media and we actually talked eye to eye, to the people we considered friends.
Cloud7593 · 46-50, F
Not for me. I vastly prefer being an adult.
I remember in your face racism, tbh. But back then people knew it was wrong and weren’t making excuses for it. They were trying to do better. I definitely didn’t imagine I’d still be seeing it, this time from people unaware of its historical context.
TheConstantGardener · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard That happened here too. It took another 20 years or so before racism began to be addressed properly. I feel like big strides have been made but it's still an issue, unfortunately.
SmartKat · 56-60, F
@bijouxbroussard I know you’re right about the racism. There were things about that time that were bad. I’m talking more about very specific and personal memories of my own childhood - not so much society in general.
@SmartKat I understand. I was speaking of specific and personal memories from my own childhood, too.

I'd rather be kicked to death than live in the Brady Bunch world...women and girls were thought of and treated as dimwits

Was just talking about the Brady Bunch...watched every episode
diablesse · 56-60, F
They were simpler times, but I don't miss being a child.
SmartKat · 56-60, F
@diablesse I only miss early childhood. Once I got to be about seven, things started going south.
