Why do gay couples get married and both call themselves the wife or husband?

Marriage is about a man and a woman getting married. What's the point in getting married if both men are calling each other the husband and, the women are calling each other wife. I don't get it.

I am strictly straight and don't see a point in gay marraiges.having said that i am not against lgbt community as i beleive its one's personal choice,however you do have a point.i feel its kinda silly when both people call themselves the wife.
borntoruleyou · 31-35, M
Rightly said by Rose.they have rights like every1.
I just have a difference of opinon.you dont need to get hyper about it
Carla · 61-69, F
@MysteriousRose but not civil rights, like everyone else though?
I shouldnt have the right to be legally married, enjoy the same benefits that a married man and woman do?
@MysteriousRose @borntoruleyou Of course he's saying that gay people don't deserve the same rights as heterosexual people... those rights can only be redeemed upon marriage - and are exactly the same ones that straight people get for the same thing.

You don't have to get it, It's not your marriage.

@SW-User Aww shucks ladies.

@SW-User for tha win!
SW-User
No, it's about making a serious commitment to someone you love. You don't have to be in a heterosexual relationship to do that.
MysteriousRose · 26-30, F
@SW-User But you bypass what marriage consists of.
HellfireandCandy · 22-25, F
@SW-User exactly
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@MysteriousRose Marriage isn't supposed to consist of anything. There's no rules to love between two consenting adults.
KingofPizza2 · 36-40, M
Also it's about dowries and I'll have all y'all know I am worth a LOT of goats.
dumpstermeow · 41-45, F
@KingofPizza2 I don't know what that means. 🤔
KingofPizza2 · 36-40, M
@dumpstermeow That was me still failing to guess your name
dumpstermeow · 41-45, F
@KingofPizza2 ah! Obviously wrong. 😹
Effloresce · 26-30, F

"Wife" is the term for a female marriage partner, "Husband" is the name for the male partner. What is the source of your confusion or concern?
borntoruleyou · 31-35, M
@redredred from what i have seen.if A is married to B.both the partners are referring eachother as their husbands.that's amusing and silly!
redredred · M
Whats silly is a man being called a wife or a woman, a husband.@borntoruleyou
dumpstermeow · 41-45, F
Because of gender. It's a paradox few can comprehend.
MysteriousRose · 26-30, F
@dumpstermeow I mean they came up with Transgender so, I'm surprised they didn't come up with something else because they changed the concept of what a marriage consists of.
dumpstermeow · 41-45, F
@MysteriousRose Husband and wife are the two terms. People pick which one based on how they identify. It's not complicated.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@MysteriousRose Nobody "changed the concept" of marriage. It still signifies everything it always did. It's semantics that are hanging you up.
Graylight · 51-55, F
Why do some people call it steak and others call it meat? What's the point of even eating it?

Look, if you're going to get hung up on what labels people choose to use in their unions, you stand little chance of understanding or accepting all kinds of love. Women don't get married so they'll be able to call someone a "husband, or vice versa. People marry for love and fidelity.
@Graylight why do some call it "'homophobia'" and others call it "disagreeing with the gay agenda". OP's not the only one with the labels
Nobody is asking you to!You're just a troll trying to put people down
Probably for the same reason that you'll call your future husband "husband" and want him to call you "wife".

As a married couple, they are just as entitled to use those terms as the next couple is.
MysteriousRose · 26-30, F
@HootyTheNightOwl They pick and choose what they want and don't want is what I see. Like trying to have both genders but only claim to what they feel.
@MysteriousRose Lol, welcome to the world of marriage - it's just the same in a same sex marriage as a heterosexual marriage.

As far as genders go, there are more than the two genders that the vanilla world recognizes, though - so it's possible for one person to be happy with male pronouns and titles one day, but prefer female ones the next.

Equally, people with DID can be just the same... especially if they are switching so rapidly that they aren't sure if the front is male or female.
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
Because generally you don't walk around calling your significant other "the wife or the husband." Except for rare cases where you have to refer to your significant other by their gender, usually people just call each other by name.
ninjavu · 51-55, M
This question belongs in a linguistics group. :)

How would you suggest a gay male/female refer to his/her spouse? The world is waiting for you to invent new terms we will all adopt.
I don't understand that whole gay thing anyway. Not that I condemn their lifestyle because I have not right to judge. But neither do I understand it.
Carla · 61-69, F
You dont have to get it. It affects you in no way.
MysteriousRose · 26-30, F
@Carla I like to ask questions and think about things that either I don't get or doesn't add up. I'm not the kind to just ignore what's going on around me.
Carla · 61-69, F
@MysteriousRose well, it isnt hard. Two women get married, two wives. Two fellows get married, two husbands.
Allelse · 36-40, M
Why do you care?

Does not Yin complement Yang, oh grasshopper? Do not be deluded by external form instead seek its nature. By observing this we learn that it is the nature of each being to seek harmony.

🤔
MysteriousRose · 26-30, F
@lily88mercy But its not Yin and Yin or Yang and Yang. Its Yin & Yang. Man & Woman.
lily88mercy · 26-30, F
@MysteriousRose

Despite the appearance of gender, each human being is a mix of both masculine and feminine energies or attributes. And so it is the same of marriage between those of the same sex. One person gravitates or identifies with the masculine aspect and calls that self "husband." The other gravitates to the feminine and calls that self "wife."

Be patient when first reading. It was all gobblydygook to me at first!

Never really thought about it
I don't get why you don't get that. I'm as "homophobic" as they come, but what's in a name?
