Why do gay couples get married and both call themselves the wife or husband?

Marriage is about a man and a woman getting married. What's the point in getting married if both men are calling each other the husband and, the women are calling each other wife. I don't get it.

@dumpstermeow I mean they came up with Transgender so, I'm surprised they didn't come up with something else because they changed the concept of what a marriage consists of.

@MysteriousRose Husband and wife are the two terms. People pick which one based on how they identify. It's not complicated.
