Why do gay couples get married and both call themselves the wife or husband?

Marriage is about a man and a woman getting married. What's the point in getting married if both men are calling each other the husband and, the women are calling each other wife. I don't get it.

"Wife" is the term for a female marriage partner, "Husband" is the name for the male partner. What is the source of your confusion or concern?

@redredred from what i have seen.if A is married to B.both the partners are referring eachother as their husbands.that's amusing and silly!
