If you use "utilize" in work emails rather than "use" I'm making fun of you behind your back

Know this
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
In business writing class, we were told to use (pardon the pun) the shortest most common word. Always choose the anglo saxon word over latin derivations.
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@Really Being Canadian I switch between ise and ize regularly.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@CountScrofula I usually use British spellings. I was actually unaware the spell it with an s
@JimboSaturn Oh, yes. We all know people don’t listen. Why give them more of a word salad to burrow through?

For the purpose of communication, clear. Concise. Direct. This doesn’t just LOOK a lot better, unless your superiors are devoted wonks, it’s far more efficient, faster to read, faster to understand.
caPnAhab · 26-30, M
Gonna call it "make utilization of"
@DrWatson We are efforting to do that , Sir, with task-driven power teams and maximum utilization of resources….crickets.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@Mamapolo2016 If not, we will pivot and leverage our synergies.
@JimboSaturn I did that once. My fuzzy-haired boss was out of control (I was his secretary), and even though his office shared a wall with the facility manager, dictated a letter to type. It was almost a full page and explained why he thought he needed another chair pad because, “I just can’t scoot around anymore like I used to.”

I came unglued and while I typed and “mailed” the letter through the mail room, I wrote another three-page draft suggesting helicopter blades or a cow-catcher…

Boss was not amused. I don’t know who gave it to him.

😂😂

I'd have used "use", not "utilise" - but would have used British spelling anyway!
TrunkZ · 56-60, M
Here is something that might be of utility to others 😬😬

Flenflyys · 31-35, F
I’ve utilized utilize in my nursing notes 😭
@Flenflyys After my prostate exam the doctor walked out and the nurse walked in. Then she asked me something no man wants to hear..

Who was that?
Flenflyys · 31-35, F
@Majorlatency that was me
@Flenflyys I can believe that. Did you write something rude on my bottom with a Magic Marker?
Also, “efforting.”
sladejr · 56-60, M
@Mamapolo2016

Ugh. Very common in television and news
@sladejr trashy talkin’
sladejr · 56-60, M
@Mamapolo2016 even the announcers in sports say that when addressing the crew
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Amen, brother. Amen.
wackidywack · 22-25
i utilize it nearly for every professional statement where deemed necessary

it was all the coursework I got used to 😭
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@wackidywack Ooh I wouldn't admit that in public
Thodsis · 51-55, M
I'm all about facilitating going forward with this project suggestion. When can we roll things out?
mindstruggle · 31-35, F
I will only utilize it for common good.
I’m making fun of you to your front…
Utilise.. lolz
Elessar · 26-30, M
Can I use irregardless at least?
But without it, kpi reports would sound so weird...

"Machine usage report" doesn't seem to convey that the report is about the efficiency at which it was used in a resourceful manner to get the most out of it..

"Machine usage efficiency report" might work but it's significantly longer than just "Machine utilisation report"
