Well there was that one time a long long time ago when I was out at a concert drunk as a skunk the night prior and emailed in to my team lead that I'd be out first thing in the morning and promptly shut my laptop and went back to sleep.
What I didnt know was I shut my laptop before the email sent. So I never called out. I just didnt show up. And then when they called me, I didn't answer. Nor did my partner [my first emergency contact] because both our phones were on vibrate in another room.
My second emergency contact was my father who was a couple thousand miles away on holiday.
So when my REALLY hungover behind finally woke, there was several voicemails from my dad, my lead, my manager, a few of my coworkers, text messages.
MORTIFIED.
I always CC myself when I email out now to make sure it goes through. I don't text because lead didnt get that another time and called me.

My husband's grandfather died. I totally uh ehrm "traveled" with my husband and his mom the 9.5 hours to the funeral and didn't at all not leave the house for 3 days to enjoy my time snoozing and binging TV with no one but the dog and cat.

I always show up to work. I’ve had to miss 2 days, because I scratched my eyeball and had to recover from that. I had 2 days off following that so 4 days and I was good to go. Had to take antibiotics that went in my eye, which I managed by taking my lunches and breaks.

@Entwistle it reminds me of college when one of my instructors said that he has had students were all four of their grandparents would die during the course of one semester. But then mysteriously when he had them in another class I all four of their grandparents would die again.

I only missed work in over 30 years if I was having surgery or was recovering from surgery. I was lucky to never get sick.

Rolled my clothes in my bag, sneaked out the office and changed in a remote bathroom of the building and left.

I can’t think of anything I’ve done that was bad to get out of work. I guess I’ve lied? I’ve had nightmares so bad that I had to take the next day off, and said I was sick instead.
