What's your worst experiences you've had while working?

I've only had one job but I've had plenty of awful experiences, so I'm curious what your worst are?
A terrible customer? Co workers? An accident?

Just a few weeks ago

The restaurant I work at had it's 25th year anniversary. It was a big event with free cake and everything.

The business was so balls-to-the-wall crazy that there were 40+ minute waiting times for orders to finish. And stocked items were running out left and right. But you couldn't do anything except make the food because the place was too understaffed. There were literal blood sweat and tears shed that day. I had to stay a few hours past my shift. Words won't do it justice I think.

In the nearly five years I worked here, there never was a day so crazy. Of course there wasn't, this was a only once in 25 years event....

@caPnAhabCongratulations! You have been fully introduced to the 'Food and Beverage' Industry. Pain. Sweat. Glory. Tips. and the the detritus that follows..

@caPnAhab As a former line cook, I feel that. Trying to do Mother's Day or Valentine's Day when you're short-staffed is like trying fly a kite in a hurricane.

@atlantic59 thanks lol.

I thought I've been to the rodeo before.. But that was more like a circus tent on fire

there are so many in my life but i think i can never forgot about one incident happened with me in HK that was much more than a night mare was brutally tortured physically , mentally , sexually and another in beginning days of my working in motel where a co-worker every night locked the bathroom and toilet and took the keys with him and left for his home , he made it every night so as i can't use them in night shift and have to do things any other place so authority can dismissed from job
My boss usually handled all phone calls, but had to go out for an hour once and asked me to pick up and just note the name and question so she could call back to handle it later. Of course one angry customer picked that time to call. He had booked a full vacation package, but the taxi that was supposed to pick him up at the airport didn't show up or something. Very understandable he was angry, but he called a taxi himself to solve the situation and already returned from his vacation in the meantime. He only wanted compensation for the extra costs and inconvenience afterwards, so there was no real hurry.

Long story short: I apologized for the inconvenience, explained I couldn't look into anything but was happy to note his details for someone to call him back within an hour to settle this and asked him to repeat his name. He went all ballistic like "I already mentioned that at the start of this call. You made a mistake and it is your responsibility to fix it. I'm not going to tell you my name again." I explained I couldn't promise a callback without that, but he kept refusing to repeat his name or give his phone number, order ID or anything.

So I made a note about what happened without whom it happened to. Thankfully my boss recognized the temper from my story, found his details and managed to make an offer that satisfied him. 😅

I had a boss once that was stealing credit for everything I did, even my artwork I did on the walls and chalkboards, fixing the toilets and covering for the grill when people didn’t show up… she got arrested for stealing from her sons lacrosse team account. Then work found out she was stealing our tips. They had no idea I had been doing all I had and gave me a big raise and a big apology.
@RebelFox omg that is so crazy wtf. It's kinda wild how unqualified bosses can be lol. I always thought with how hard it is to get a job, bosses must be cream of the crop, but definitely not, and that's a crazy example of it

@PetalsOfLilac You never ever know with people. Never 😆

Not really had much experience working for others, pretty much a one company kinda gurl to be honest, but I haven't had bad experiences per say, just very busy days when the IT system goes into glorious crash and burn mode, my colleagues are busy trying to rectify the issues and I'm there, front-of-house, fending off all the negative phone calls...

That's pretty tough!

Recently we updated all the hardware, method-like, one by one making sure it worked before going onto the next person. We had a few phone calls onto 'Where's mine?' etc, just like spoilt kids. That was just annoying!

Just quantity basically, rather than one particular issue.

Me, being me, of course I'll stop people in their tracks and, irrespective of whether it's the CEO or someone else, I'll say 'Play nice, sweetie. Don't get abusive or else I'll put this phone down...'

It helps!

☺️

Crying in front of a boss.. you can't undo that as a man.
atlantic59 · 61-69, M

being a waitress and having men grope me and be really sleazy
deadgerbil · 22-25
Dealing with extremely full and leaking garbage bags bc my coworkers are lazy and wound rather stuff a bag full until it's 60 lbs and about to burst
@deadgerbil sounds about right for co workers
Mrjingleswilly · 51-55, M
Forgive me if this sounds big-headed, but I have to say it’s probably dealing with people in management that can’t handle my intelligence. So many stupid warnings and inflexibility. 🙄

Had a guy pull a knife on me
