Have you noticed that the pronunciation of 'stein' is dependent on perceived criminality?

Alfred and Brian are considered the good guys and are 'steins'.

Harvey and Jeffrey are the baddies and are 'steens'.

Just a thought. ;)

:-)

The German-language syllable stein is pronounced as "stine".

Perhaps it depends on the speaker's knowledge of the German language?
hunkalove · 70-79, M
The Beatles pronounced Brian's name as "Epstine."
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@hunkalove then there is Leonard Bernstein.

@samueltyler2 And Dirty Gerty Stein!
ArishMell · 70-79, M
@hunkalove George Harrison actually! :-)

He pronounced it correctly. The name is German.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Interesting, the media is just incorrect.

@samueltyler2 Any particular medium in mind?

Or all media?...
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Thodsis many times I hear them mispronounce a name. The failed have been known one way or the other all of their lives, the media just doesn't seem to care.
