We had weather like this recently (all the way down to -4°F), together with an anticyclone making the air quality terrible + constant power cuts because of bombings. Talk about fun times. 😭
@Gusman I'm not a weather expert myself haha, but it has something to do with high pressure, and very little wind, so the air becomes stale. In winter it's bad because all the fuel from cars and heating eccumulates at ground level. That's my understanding anyways. I found this picture:
@Nightwings Rather complicated by the look of that. Thank you. From BYJU'S online education site. A cyclone is an area of low pressure where air masses meet and rise. An anticyclone is an area of high pressure where air moves apart and sinks.
@Boeing This is called 'irony'. In this case stating the opposite of what you mean when it's clear that it is anything but fun. I hope that is not a patronising explanation. I know you said sometimes you find working out cultural usage a challenge.
