Why are weather apps so deceitful?

Happens too often. 1Weather in this case.

The screen icon shows rain.
Open the app and among the normal stuff is a rain/time graphic. Says rain started an hour ago and will end in a half hour.

Now let's go outside together.
NOT A DAMN CLOUD IN THE SKY!
And the apps radar shows the same.

I look at 3 weather apps. They all say something different and yet they all come from the Weather Channel. I think it has to do with location.

@hunkalove I think it's a conspiracy lol

It really depends on the app u use. I use my local weather app and it is good.
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@smileylovesgaming the apps radar also showed no rain within miles. I need to add that information.

Weather can change quickly. The updating component might be the issue.

@Ynotisay I didn't add the apps radar also showed no rain within many miles.

@Gibbon Maybe a glitch. It happens. I use a local weather source over the phone app. Although there's been a lot of times with the app of "It'll start snowing in 30 minutes" and it does. It's always a crap shoot. Walking outside is usually the best call.
Not sure what you use but with mine they offer the option of letting know if it's accurate. If not, I'll tell them they missed.

@Ynotisay It's in the post. 1Weather.
And it's very easy to report issues from within the app and I have many times. They remind me of Microsoft constantly adding new bells and whistles you don't need until it's nothing but over bloated.

Maybe you chose the wrong location
Gibbon · 70-79, M
@Nunki Perhaps if I manually select it but in this case my phone is the location. And if I travel the location changes with me.

The weather apps are generic and are defaulted to a very conservative percentile of expected rainfall for a rain icon to be generated at all.

For example, if there's a 40% chance of rain, which only means the sky will be overcast with no imbedded thunderstorms, the icon will default to rain as if it were steady rain.

Even if there's a 90% chance of rain, the icon will still default to that same rain icon that's used at 40%, rather than offer levels of chance of precipitation.

The reason for this is that the weather app you're using is being generated by a 3rd Party, rather than the national weather bureau itself. If you want actual hard data for your specific area, go to ACCUWEATHER.com

@swirlie
What you say is categorically correct. Thanks for that one!

aside, is anyone else suspicious of the weather network being pro-hurricane? 🤔
