Cripes. I don't know how you live in those temps! The snow event starts today. Rain in the afternoon. Tomorrow rain turns to snow in a flash freeze. Winds up to 120 km/hour. Blowing snow and whiteouts. Icy, dangerous roads. Be safe out there. Dress warmly. Have emergency supplies in your vehicles if you have to travel. If you don't, don't. Fill up with gas. Have enough food. Mind your generators. Check on your elderly or infirm neighbours and friends. Work together. Nearly all of us will get through this.
Stay safe and warm. I couldn't deal with that kind of cold...but who can.😟 We are going to be -1F tonight. That worries me so... any colder weather would frightening!
I’ll use Celsius, even though we use Fahrenheit here, to keep it simple. –1, but feels like –6. This is enough cold for me, although it will get colder in January-March, but –40 is insane. I wouldn’t survive it.
I couldn’t adapt to that kind of cold. Even at this temperature, my legs go numb within seconds of being outside, so I don’t take walks when it’s this cold. I’m sure if I wore thermals, it would help, but I don’t. @Lumberjack70
-1F (-18C) and -14F (-25C) with the wind chill here. The worse part is the snow and I'm not looking forward to clearing that. In one week it should be above freezing, maybe I'll just leave it like my leaves, they eventually blew away...
Not sure how far north you are but it was -40 in my home town yesterday. I haven't checked the temperature today but it was clear again and it didn't warm up in the day time so..... Funny story. Back in the early 70s I was sent to Ontario for military training just north of Toronto. One of the guys on course with me was from southern Ontario and with wonderment in his voice said "I have never been this far north before". I dryly replied "And I have never been this far south".
Wind Chills get above zero Friday afternoon, but temperatures don’t get above freezing until Sunday afternoon. Thankfully, winds die down for the weekend, with everything back to normal for Christmas! We’ve got light snow moving in from the north, which will quickly freeze to the roads so take it slow on the commute and allow more time on the roads in general today.
This is already too cold for me! No work today because of road conditions... Hibernate while you can!
@iamonfire696 Diesel engines are always fun to start in the cold which is why I don't own one. Yes batteries are finicky things which is why I will never own an EV. However If you know what you are doing you can get a vehicle started in the cold. My uncle would drain the oil and antifreeze out of his car and along with the battery bring them all into his house. When he wanted to start the car he would pour in the antifreeze then the oil then put in battery and the engine would start like it was a summer day. The newer batteries are a bit more reliable but at one point I had a battery blanket that I could plug in and warm the battery. I also had a circulating block heater that caused warm antifreeze to flow through out the engine. It made starting dad's diesel tractor easy.
