Wisconsin school shooting

MSNBC REPORTS:

“ In a statement on Monday afternoon, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said, “There are no words to describe the devastation and heartbreak we feel today after the school shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison this morning.”

“As a father, a grandfather, and as governor, it is unthinkable that a kid or an educator might wake up and go to school one morning and never come home,” he said. “This should never happen, and I will never accept this as a foregone reality or stop working to change it.””

@Theyitis i agree that is not correct as many articles do the research listing children and teens as 1-17. that said, eighteen and nineteen year olds are still teens and shouldn't lose their life to gun violence

@Theyitis It's far simpler to just recognise there's a problem and this problem doesn't exist in countries with sane gun control.

@Theyitis Probably depends on what year you're using for your data. Here's data from 2021, 19% of all deaths for children UNDER 18, making firearms the leading cause.


According to Johns Hopkins, in 2022
For third straight year, firearms killed more children and teens, ages 1 to 17, than any other cause including car crashes and cancer

I'm looking at the Gun Violence Archive list for mass shootings since the murder of the health care CEO. In addition to today's 2 killed, 6 injured in Madison Wisc, we've had:

December 14, 2024, Texas, Houston 2 killed, 4 injured

December 10, 2024, Florida, Lake Worth Beach, 2K 2I

December 8, 2024, Illinois, Cicero 1K, 3I

December 7, 2024, Georgia, Atlanta 4K

December 7, 2024, Washington, Seattle, 5I

December 6, 2024, Alabama, Theodore, 1K, 5I

Since the CEO murder there have been seven mass shootings with twelve deaths. Only the most recent is still in the news cycle, but the CEO murder is still making news. I think it says something terrible about us as a nation that these other killings are barely newsworthy.

Focusing on school shootings,
There have been 39 school shootings this year that resulted in injuries or deaths, according to an Education Week analysis. There have been 221 such shootings since 2018. There were 38 school shootings with injuries or deaths last year. There were 51 in 2022, 35 in 2021, 10 in 2020, and 24 each in 2019 and 2018.

Based on the numbers, it would be fair to conclude that we worship guns and sacrifice children to them.

"Abundant Life Christian School".....ok, now that gun violence has now come to their doorstep, will they now demand common sense gun laws?

This school did not have metal detectors.
I do not know if they had security cameras.

Will you next claim: “Well, it’s their own fault! The kids made themselves targets by being in class!”

Just to be clear: I AM NOT POSTING THIS AS A JOKE—IT IS NO MORE ABSURD THAN THE EXCUSES COMING FROM THE RIGHT WING POLITICIANS WHO HAVE CREATED THIS ENVIRONMENT.

Think about it. Take those THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS AND REALLY THINK ABOUT THIS EPIDEMIC OF DEADLY VIOLENCE.
