why not hire more staff increase the game quality give more content

what gamers want vs what gamer creators want

gamers want

good quality game
lots of content
mind blowing storylines
loveable characters

what gamer creates want

pay 100-200 per game
game content behind paywalls/monthly subscribes
low effort and quality for high prices points
don't earn by playing the game just pay with microtractions for what you want in games

recent games half the people who play them dont play they just buy their way to the top

when you need money in gta or season pass ranking in the first descendant for example your able to by your way through content instead of playing thought it these days

i love video games i hate fact that most games now have paywalls to stop you from experience the full game and microtractions to pay your way through instead of earning it through actually game play

On the same token we should give some praise to developers such as Digital Entertainment who have been doing it right for over a decade now.

The quality of AAA games isn't what it used to be either. 2024 had some seriously bad releases. I'm not saying that all of them were bad but there were some serious stinkers. Several major titles were utter failures in terms of units sold.

Based on my assessment of the state of the video game industry, I'd say things will have to change a lot and quickly. It needs to revert to how it was a decade or more ago. Smaller budgets, good stories and ideas, focusing more on what players want, less corporate bloat, and fewer live service games.

As it stands now, the likes of Ubisoft need to get psychiatric treatment if they think their games are worth $100.

@SaorUladh they dont think their games is worth 100 they want to put it up to 100 plus so they can make back the money for THEIR MISTAKES they made mistakes in there games and they want us the buyers to fix it by helping them get money back by willingly paying 100 for their games :P

Yeah its getting pretty bad. I hear some places like Blizzard pay really poorly and expect AAA titles in ridiculous time frames. I think its also because the demand for more is so high. Alot of players have extremely high expectations every year, your game has to come out at the right time to deal with competition, everybody wants something different but you cant jam it all into one game or else ita no longer good. It must be tough being a developer. Especially when you have creative ideas but your company is run by money hungry business people.

@NeverMissABeat oh there will always be "free to play" games. Even if its not pay to win. Some people actually pay money for cosmetics and prestige items and it often brings in more money than the game sales itself.

But yeah, games are getting sloppier and more expensive. Alot of the time too its in early access for like 5 years and modders have to go and finish them game for them.

I agree. I miss old school GTA V where all you had was some guns and a car and whatever skill you had developed. Maybe an aircraft too but none of that "buy the next vehicle and win every fight" stuff they started doing. That's a paywall.

i've been playing a really cute game that does different events with new limited time cosmetics. there's a really cute hair style. bummed when i realized it was an iap but i was liiiiike, i mean, i have gift cards. why not. bruh, it's $20 😐 i was expecting $5. i can't justify spending that much

@Frostcloud if you think 20 is alot for hairstyles etc check out the first descendant they charge 100 for characters and charge 20 for short hairstyles for girls ohh you want long hair on your girl character no problem ok that will be 49.99 or do you want the better hairstyle for 69.99 are you so which price do you want for the long hair XD

i wanted a ponytail for my character but its 49.99 for it XD

Some really good points in the chat.

You've nailed it. Profit over quality. This is why gaming industry will never surpass movies / tv as a dominant media for expression and entertainment.

1.Gaming companies start promising, focused on user needs, offer innovative valuable service and grow loyal gamers. It's new and different and not making money.

2.The companies grow and start monetizing through subscriptions, price tiers, ads, premium features just to sustain themselves. They're trying to make money and recoup their initial investments.

3.Growth and profit becomes more important than good content. Gaming companies focus more and more on making money to please investors not gamers.

4.It's falling apart now, users are pissed off as the gaming companies focus on squeezing ever diminishing returns just to stay profitable.

Finally, now the company is profitable and 100% focused on revenue. Gamers are left with hot garbage at exorbitant prices with no value.

Prices are going up for everything but I've only bought one AAA game game in the past few years, and it was well-chosen and worth it.

That why people hack, steal, or even rewrite the code for them for linux computers for them and then put them out on-line for free on torrent sites, hacker site, Linux sites

If you look hard enough. You can find the same game or a clone of it for free.

Or learn how to do it yourself.
