The world used to be more colorful...

its the distribution of colors in new cars over the years

Some coloured paints are more expensive than others: Henry Ford said, "You can have any color so long as it's black".

I have a 25 year old yellow Citroen and I love it so much 😊

I remember some years ago my Dad saying he wanted to buy a secondhand car, a 'nearly new'' example of a well-known German make. 'You'll probably end up with a silver one', I told him. He did. (it was an '07 model year).

My personal favourite period was late '50's/early '60s. You could get all sorts of colours, and some makes offered pink and various two-tone schemes in their colour choices. These had largely gone by 1965, though.

Cars turned from funny little death machines into same-y little idiot transporters.
Not a fan of cars in primer grey. It's supposed to be under the paint

Ooo, not here, haha. I see so many colors on cars. Yesterday I saw a beautifully designed black and green Opel. I also noticed this interesting trend to put small color elements here and there, especially on rear mirrors and around headlights. There are so many of them in my city this year. Something like this. Is that a trademark of Mini or something? haha

@CrazyMusicLover 'Lifestyle' vehicles such as the Mini and Fiat/Abarth 500 (the Opel/Vauxhall Adam/Karl was another) come or came with very complex colour and trim options. They include things like mirrors, brake calipers and other elements in different colours. Plus, inside the car, lots of different trim materials and colours. The marketing people must have a lot of fun putting that lot together 😶

@supersnipe They look like bugs. 😆I saw a really big man trying to get out of one about a month ago and it was hilarious, as that car was tiny. I don't know what event was that day but I saw many of those in the city center. Beige-orange-brown look really retro.

Ha...found it.

Yes! I used to lease a new car every three years, and I like bold colors. Instead I have noticed the shift toward gray. I hate it.

I did not lease this time around, since the only new cars in stock were white or gray, when I started looking. Also, by the time my lease ended, there were no new cars in stock. So I bought out my lease, and got to keep my red car!

I don't think it is necessary to have 4 different shades of white and 3 different shades of silver for the same car, but I guess that is what the public wants.

But if you get a bolder color like red or yellow people think you are trying to get attention.

You can't win.

Reminds me of comment from an aunt who was very timid, very much wanted to melt into the crowd and be unseen, when they bought a new car in the early 50s. "Used to be you could just get a black car to blend in with the crowd," she moaned. "Today you have to get a red one." They opted for a green Impala.

Ya its a shame. Colors also used to be more vibrant with lead and oil based paints. Those paints were also superior, especially lead, for being long lasting.
Nothing compares to cars of the 50s- early 70s.

Gee, and i grew up thinking it used to be in black-and-white until two-strip Technicolor showed up once in a while.
SinlessOnslaught · 26-30, M
Yeah that seems like something we would do lol. Just buy black, white and grey cars so we fit in.
Seems we've moved to dramatic styling and sharper angles to sell a brand and experience.
Miss the old days.
I can't stand the fact companies stopped painting their vehicles and started clear coating the primer.

Mine is white for a simple and single purpose: I don't want to get cooked in summer.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
today, most of us simply choose from the colors on pre-ordered vehicles.

henry ford quote...you can have any color...as long as its black
