Got car knowledge?..(car stalled out)

On my way home tonight I was at a red light and all of a sudden it felt like my car was not on. And I realized it wasn't. I looked at the dash and the battery, oil and one other light was on. I shit the car, turned it back on and it drove fine the next ten minutes home.

But it felt a little like it was lagging at one point. Then it just stalled completely out as I turned into my driveway. It turned on again and I drove into the driveway, but any ideas why it might do this? My soy checked online it said possibly not getting air properly, some type air filter. Any ideas?

My partner votes for fuel filter.
@Evillynn Although, once the fuel filter goes, it usually won't start working again.

@PhoenixPhail I was just piping in with what he said. I don't know anything about cars, I just drive one. 😂

Try O' Reilly's if there is one close to you
Even Walmart has an automotive center that employs full time mechanics to solve your problems
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@rebelsoul I'm just afraid it will stall again on the way to O'Reilly's, and won't restart. I might even have it towed just eight minutes away to mechanic, Bec I fear it'll stall again at a red light.

@Baybreeze Sorry you are having that trouble
maybe if that swirlie chick sees this and you haven't blocked her she could tell you....she knows everything about cars....and everything else.

Could be a fuel line problem Lady Silverspoon

Ask swirlie from what she told me before blocking me.

She designed cars for Buick, Chevrolet & De Leon

I'd lean more towards a fuel filter. Or a fuel pump. In the tank pump if you run your fuel low a lot they heat up and wear out faster.

Auto Zone will check your battery for free.
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@MrBrownstone Do you think I can make it up the road five minutes, without stalling, to AutoZone? It only just started stalling today.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@Baybreeze Yeah, stalling makes me think fuel filter or pump.
Lilnonames · F
id say fuel pump, fuel filter or air intake sensor, and first check if you have fuel
Lilnonames · F
auto zone can check that too
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@Lilnonames Ty my friend

Read and read good. If the car will start start it and see if the check engine light is on. If on get it checked with a code reader and go from there, if the light is off check the fuel pressure
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Is this new? Some cars do that automatically.
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@samueltyler2 No it's never done it before and three light s came on dash ...battery, oil and one other.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Baybreeze good luck. I hope it turns out to be something simple, aka inexpensive!
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@samueltyler2 Ty...I cannot afford to replace a big or pricey part rn ..ugh
kodiac · 26-30, M
If it was the battery once it stalls it wouldn't restart
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
Too many possibilities. Check engine light on?
GerOttman · 70-79, M
air filers unlikely but not impossible. fuel line or fuel filter possibly. are there trees or bushes where you park? Squirrels like to chew on lines and hoses sometimes which can cause problems.
DownTheStreet · 56-60, M
Battery is by far the most common car ailment. Depending on the car you should be able to easily remove it and take it to autozone or similar to have it checked. Eventually they die.

air filter easy to check and clean. Just vac it or if you have a compressor blow compressed air thru it.
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@DownTheStreet I don't know how to check air filter... would it make it about five more minutes up the road without stalling out do you think, to the Autozone (to check battery)?
DownTheStreet · 56-60, M
@Baybreeze it would be really unlikely to be the air filter tbh . If you can get it started just watch the red lights and pace yourself so you maintain some speed.
wildbill83 · 41-45, M
could be any number of things; weak fuel pump, bad fuel injector, bad coil pack, faulty maf sensor, bad torque converter

doesn't sound like battery or alternator (or it wouldn't restart)

air filter unlikely or it wouldn't run at all
SirLirkALot · 46-50, M
may be try to l scanning for codes at AutoZone if you don't have one? I have a AP Maxi dongle. I had the same problem actually where I stalled out and I needed to replace the whole fuse box.
HikingMan · 56-60, M
Could be the air filter, an electrical issue, or possibly the fuel injector.

I wouldn’t take it far from home until it’s checked out.
Baybreeze · 41-45, F
@HikingMan Are any of those fairly reasonably priced to repair?
HikingMan · 56-60, M
@Baybreeze my honest guess is that it the fuel injection system. Either the pump or the injector. Depending on year, make, model, you’re probably looking at a few hundred to a thousand dollars.

It’s hard to say with the way prices are going.

Do you know any mechanically inclined people?
Nick1 · 61-69, M
@Baybreeze yes Air filter will be cheap and probably you can do yourself. When did you change your air filter? Check your filter and see how dirty it is.
This symptoms could be anything, spark plugs or spark plug wires, hole/ gap in air intake, fuel injector, fuel filter, moisture in fuel. It’s long process of elimination. Cheapest first. Lol
daydeeo · 70-79, M
Sounds like a fuel problem. Bad pump or fuel line.
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
It might be the battery or alternator
GoFish ·
i have no idea either
eyeno · M
Alternator not charging….
Likestoenjoylife · 51-55, M
Hard to say with cars today but could be a belt broken which wont charge up the battery or a bad battery and could be a dirty air filter or fuel filter needs to be checked out.
