Why do people say Christians can't be liberal?

Heard this thing from multiple people so I'm just wondering.

I'm very liberal and I'm also very Christian too. I'm just wondering why a lot of people think Jose two things aren't compatible.

Dunno why they say that.
A Christian believes in Jesus.

The opinions you have could be right or wrong, but that doesn't mean someone isn't a Christian.

@CopperCicada I don't believe that to be merely theory.

People never cease to amaze me. It seems to divide and confuse things even more doesn't it!? I mean you're living proof Christians can be liberal.
Politics is too dirty for a Christian to be involved in.

@CopperCicada exactly!

[you have a funny typo in there, Jose instead of "those"]

I can think of two reasons: 1) anti-liberal Christians make a lot of noise about it and make themselves the most noticeable Christians; 2) for those liberals who are also non-religious or anti-religious for whatever reason, it's simple and convenient to lump everybody they disagree with together.

Other groups have the same issue. People think all Jews have beards and sidelocks (at least the male ones) and are gung-ho about Israel (actually those characteristics rarely go together, not to mention all the Jews who don't fit either stereotype), that all Muslims are militant jihadists, and so on.

The moment you merge religion with politics, you're heading for deep water. Be what ever you want to be, in either religious or political outlook. Be true to yourself.

@IstillmissEP What? So I'm regressive because I dont judge people based on their religion?

Christianity is all about fear, hate, and feeling superior to others. Jesus was certainly a Liberal, he loved everyone, but I've never in my 67 years noticed that Christianity has anything to do with the teachings of Jesus.

@hunkalove I'm not as old as you, and I'm not a Christian either, but I've met many Christians who are all about love, kindness, and peace. I'm sorry you haven't!

@hunkalove Many Christians are backwards, but that doesn't mean the religion is about hatred.
or be pro choice.

Christians shouldn't take part of this world's politics, as we are not part of the world.

John 17:14 I have given your word to them, but the world has hated them, because they are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world.
15 “I do not request that you take them out of the world, but that you watch over them because of the wicked one. 16 They are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world.
@MartinTheFirst I was just thinking the same.
