Why do people say Christians can't be liberal?

Heard this thing from multiple people so I'm just wondering.

I'm very liberal and I'm also very Christian too. I'm just wondering why a lot of people think Jose two things aren't compatible.

Christians shouldn't take part of this world's politics, as we are not part of the world.

John 17:14 I have given your word to them, but the world has hated them, because they are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world.
15 “I do not request that you take them out of the world, but that you watch over them because of the wicked one. 16 They are no part of the world, just as I am no part of the world.
