Did u go to church growing up as a kid ? 🙏

I did.
I went to a Pentecostal Holiness Church. It was very loud and energetic. I enjoyed it. But over time I saw the direction the community was going in and it made me say...hmmmmm. 🤔
What kind of church did you attend.
And what's your opinion about religion nowadays.
Best answer wins.

We went to church off and on. Catholic, Church of Christ, and I would visit other churches with friends. My opinion of religion is that it can be good. Although with imperfect people living it, bad things happen. Religion doesn't prevent all bad things as much as we hope it will. There are some things that I wish people did better. I wish the religious were more tolerant of others with different beliefs and vice versa. My beliefs are important to me but I try to respect others beliefs as well.
@Zonuss Thank you for best comment

My mother tried to take my brother and myself to church. It didn`t go well, so she went by herself after that. 😬

When we moved to Ontario I started going to Sunday school at an Anglican Church

I think I was 9 or 10 when my Sunday school teacher felt me up. Everyone was carpooling and going downtown Toronto to see Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I always associate Joseph and his coat with what happened that night.

He was actually arrested a few years later for molesting kids including his own daughter.

I was raised Lutheran, i.e., religious, but I quit going as soon as Icould say no to my parents.
I spent my teen years drinking and using drugs. I finally got hungry for something more.
Just after my 21st birthday, I had a remarkable conversion experience and accepted the risen, living Jesus Christ as my savior. Now I know Him, and I've been gratefully, joyfully, living for Him ever since.
Oh, and I go to an independent Pentecostal church.

@daydeeo Awesome.

Yes, I did "go" to a church, three or four of them, but I didn't "attend" as much as I went to see what was going on.

I was not impressed, but sometimes there were good eats afterward.

Nowadays I'd rather buy or make my lunch.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@Ontheroad Are you going to church for spiritual healing. Or are you looking for a Sunday dinner. 😂
Ontheroad · M
@Zonuss I should have said "I did go", meaning only when I was a kid... like 10 or 11 and yeah, that's what got me there😁
CestManan · 46-50, F
@Ontheroad Reminds me of one of my old co-workers. We had some meeting in the whatever room, they had ordered in food while we watched some snooze-fest video about how great the company is.

Anyways afterwards I was joking with said co-worker, asking if the video brought him to tears and he goes, "I will agree with whatever they say as long as food is involved." 😄
CestManan · 46-50, F
I seldom did, we just were not a religious household.

And what's your opinion about religion nowadays.

Basically, it is just some people's entertainment. Kind of like music, movies, video games, politics,

I mean it is okay to enjoy such things but major life decisions shouldn't rest on them.

The only time I was inside a church I was in my twenties... it was for a friend's wedding.
My daughter looked around a churcuh when she was 18 because she was ticking items off a bucket list. She said it was creepy 👍😀

I'm a Catholic so every Sunday. Had to attend 8am Catechism classes till 10am. Mass started at 10.30am. From age 7 to 16 when I was confirmed. Then I regulrly attended church services until I became regularly employed and I couldn't make Sunday morning services anymore. So I switched to Saturday and then the company started scheduling more overtime on weekends so I couldn't make that either.

Overtime I basically stopped going part due to inability, part due to tiredness and partly due to my growing disgust with the institutional Church.

Now I'd say that I'm still Catholic but I don't go to Church.

I too grew up in the Pentecostal Church. I remember a lot of people "dancing in the Spirit," and "speaking in tongues."
I, however, am no longer associated with any organized religion, I am no longer a Christian since I no longer believe Christ was God, but I do however believe Christ was a very great prophet and I believe in his teachings.
My personal experience is that I have been able to follow the teachings of Christ better as a non Christian than I ever did as a believer.

As a child we attended Presbyterian and lutherian. As a teenager i converted to mormonism. Was active in the religion for about 10ish years. My wife and i moved. We stopped going because church activities were coming between us. We later divorced but i haven't returned.

With my 2nd wife we attended catholic churches where we lived.

Currently I'm a strong beleiver but don't attend any church
exexec · 61-69, C
Yes. We were there every Sunday morning, evening youth group, and evening service. It was a large Methodist Church. We still go every Sunday to a United Methodist Church. Our faith is important to us.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@exexec Great to hear.

@Zonuss Are you a catholic Zonuss?
Quimliqer · 70-79, M
Yes, grew up in a Lutheran church. Today, my belief is it’s more important what’s in your heart, than the name above the door!
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@Quimliqer Well said.
Catholic church.
Catechism, the whole nine yards.
I hated it. I never found anything spiritual there.
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@robingoodfellow Interesting 🤔

3-4 days a week growing up. I don't know that I am or want to be known as being religious. After all I do not believe Jesus was. But I do have faith in Christ and I am a believer
Zonuss · 46-50, M
@Bang5luts Cool.
DDonde · 31-35, M

Jew raised with no religion. Atheist. God bless…
My mother is a retired church secretary, of course I did, her first church was a year and a half at a methodist one from 1978 to 1980, her second a presbyterian from 2012 to 2022.

She reluctantly, surprisingly, accepts my Atheism.
