How much was your rent when you first started living on your own?

JRVanguard · 26-30, M
I haven’t yet because it’s so expensive by me
But soon I think I’ll need to just bite the bullet
It’s gonna be like 1400-1800 a month for a one bedroom apartment by me
JRVanguard · 26-30, M
@highkeydykey I hate it
I’d very much like my independence but I would have no savings after that and buying food and bills
Rational people don’t
Fortunately my parents understand
When I even bring it up to them they’re like “Don’t be crazy, it’s so expensive, we don’t mind”
So at least I don’t feel like a burden but I’d still like my space and I’m sure you feel the same
@JRVanguard of course I feel the same. I used to beat myself up for not being able to afford it. I don't know why? Lol
JRVanguard · 26-30, M
@highkeydykey Very much same and I still do it often
You’re doing great though
I’m proud of you🤗

$300 per month. 1 large master suite, with an additional bedroom/bathroom, huge combo open living/dining room, kitchen with breakfast counter, large deck off the Living room, facing a quiet forest. Bellevue, Washington. 1985. I was living by myself and at the time, this was somewhat on the higher end of things.

$350

1 bedroom
My 1/6 of the rent (share house of 6 and 3 bedrooms) was only $30. Total was $180per week. But that was early 2000s and was living in the slums of Melbourne lol.
dancingtongue · 80-89, M
I can't really remember. Perhaps $180/mo? Doubt any more than $200. I was only making $500/mo, and that was before tax and pension deductions. We're talking 1966.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
I honestly don't remember what I paid to live in dorm. It was in the range of $1000 for a term. My first apartment cost $140.00 per month.
WhateverWorks · 36-40
540 for a 1 bedroom , 450 for a large studio with a WD in unit and a backyard. Now that studio is worth over a grand.

The rent was 950/month for a 900 sq ft. 3 bed 2 bath apartment that we split 3 ways.

Same place now goes for about 2k/month.

I don't remember how much my rent used to be when I had my first place but rn I'm back with my family. I'll be getting somewhere new soon tho.

I'm looking at places that cost about £450 per month, which is a little over $600.
