Mental illness is not trendy or cool to have

Seems to be a lot of people online and in person who fake mental illnesses now and think it is some cool label to attach to themselves. Tik Tok is flooded with it and yeah when you actually have a real mental illness, It does not make you trendy or cool and there is really no positives to it.
It bothers me that people are so very desperate to attach labels on themselves that now this has become just as bad as those who fake it for financial gain or whatever else..

Also self diagnosing yourself isn't a actual diagnosis

I don’t think it’s good to announce you have a mental illness on social media. As an employer your resume would go in the garbage. Wouldn’t want drama or my building blowing up.

@Keepitsimple fair enough. I respect your opinion

@ZashaKitty Same here!! Thanks for the chat and sharing your thoughts also. 🤗

@Keepitsimple my pleasure and thank you for commenting and chatting with me 🤗
A lot of people here weaponise mental illness or episodes of it to gain empathy or to excuse being abusive towards others. That itself is a sign of mental illness

@PepsiColaP probably right with that

Maybe they are desperate to figure out why they struggle and find ways to help themselves.

Instead of assuming people are desperate to be labeled..assume health care, including mental health care, is seriously lacking and that people are seeking these answers on their own because they can't afford to go to professionals.
ZashaKitty · 26-30, F
@JaggedLittlePill is it really a assumption to say people love to label themselves? it really isn't.

As far as mental health care, what you say may be correct but self diagnosing wont help what so ever because it is not accurate and only does more harm

Sometimes just having a name for what you’re going through is incredibly helpful. You can’t address what you can’t identify.
ZashaKitty · 26-30, F
@summersong that is true but taking a quiz online or looking up symptoms online and assuming you have a certain disorder or illness just from that, isnt really helpful in the long run. Might make you feel better at the time but if you actually have a real issue, it wont help much at all especially if you are wrong
That's harsh and comes with a little judgment of things you might not know about. There are things in this world I still don't understand at my age and sometimes I partake in them.
@ZashaKitty I wasn't judging you.
ZashaKitty · 26-30, F
@thewindupbirdchronicles It's okay if you were
@ZashaKitty I was putting in a different point of view
I would like to not have any. That would be cool. I don’t know why anybody would want anything I suffer from.

Validation via "trauma". An inevitability in this insane open air asylum we call society
I do hate it too. Someone on here tried claiming they have CP to explain their weird tendencies. But my cousin actually has it so I could tell right away they were lying. It’s unfair to those that actually have the condition and got to suffer with it while others thinks it’s a exuse
ZashaKitty · 26-30, F
@finitysmith people have different experiences with mental illnesses though I think. Not saying that person was faking it or not but you never know I guess.

Sorry to hear about your cousin

I am more talking about people who kind of gloat and talk as if they are really unique and cool for having a mental illness and post tiktok videos about it and so on and they also say they self diagnosed. To me, that is not a real diagnosis and should not be treated as one
@ZashaKitty yeah self diagnosed people full of it

It's a series issue

I've noticed this too. As a teacher, I hear so many kids tell me how depressed they are. Some truly are, but it's difficult to separate them out.

Depression is no joke. I wish I were just labeling myself and didn't really have it.
justme21 · 26-30, M
I never went to a therapist to geta diagnosis or anything mostly cause mental health is considered as a taboo here but I'm wuiet sure I do have sone mebtlah health ilness like depression and anxiety

Also, unless you want to question everyone about the validity of their diagnosis, I would steer clear of deciding you can decipher real from fake or labeling things invalid.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@ZashaKitty You are not a professional and your opinion doesn't invalidate someone's thoughts on their own mental health.

I self diagnosed.

Then I sought help much later .. when I was able to and ready to. I was then diagnosed with all the things I had self diagnosed myself with.

While you have valid points...it is not trendy or cool...you also make wide assumptions about people you don't know fromn 3 minute videos they post online.
JaggedLittlePill · 46-50, F
@ZashaKitty Also, my child has Adhd and is not diagnosed because it would cost 900 for a full neuropsych evaluation that insurance won't pay for. She was evaluated by the school and receives support for learning....but does not have an official diagnosis.

Jump down off the high horse.
ZashaKitty · 26-30, F
@JaggedLittlePill I had a feeling you did since you seem to be getting very defensive.
I am not a professional, you are 100% correct on that and that is why i would never self diagnose myself with anything
