Mental illness is not trendy or cool to have

Seems to be a lot of people online and in person who fake mental illnesses now and think it is some cool label to attach to themselves. Tik Tok is flooded with it and yeah when you actually have a real mental illness, It does not make you trendy or cool and there is really no positives to it.
It bothers me that people are so very desperate to attach labels on themselves that now this has become just as bad as those who fake it for financial gain or whatever else..

Also self diagnosing yourself isn't a actual diagnosis

I don’t think it’s good to announce you have a mental illness on social media. As an employer your resume would go in the garbage. Wouldn’t want drama or my building blowing up.

@Keepitsimple sometimes you have to give that information to a employer though. I dont know about drama or blowing up buildings though

@ZashaKitty I would appreciate the honesty but I don’t want an employee in bed depressed or 5 different personalities coming in making my other employees miserable. They are things that employers think about. Why ruin a good dynamic? I think people should watch what they write online is all.

@Keepitsimple You could just hire someone who hides it instead in that case and that could end even worse. At least if people are honest when applying for jobs and aware or certain issues a employee has, they can help if things get bed..
I agree with the writing stuff online though

@ZashaKitty it’s ok if they hide it. Worst case scenario is they aren’t reliable or other employees complain and I’ll keep documenting until I can let them go. If they do their job and act professional it’s a win win.

@Keepitsimple but that could be the same with them being honest at interview and letting the employer know. The rest of the staff shouldnt be aware of that anyway
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
@ZashaKitty of course that’s confidential but if you disclose that kind of information at an interview you have to know that it will be used against you whether it’s legal or not. People want a place that is peaceful, not a miserable coworker although right now they take anybody as long as it’s a warm body because nobody wants to work.
@Keepitsimple Like other health conditions that are not supposed to be used against someone prospective?

@Keepitsimple having a mental illness doesn't mean you are just a miserable coworker though lol. I kind of get what you are saying but I think our opinions on this is vastly different

@ZashaKitty I think we’re on the same page different angles, lol. People can function with mental illness of course, I think it should be kept private is all I’m saying.

@Keepitsimple fair enough. I respect your opinion
