Kind honesty does sometimes require more thought but it is worth it.

I try to remember that 'honesty' and 'truth' are not necessarily synonymous. What I honestly think may not be truth. It's only my opinion.

That popular phrase "brutal honesty" could be shortened to just 'brutal.' Moreover, if I am brutally honest, I may as well save my breath. The hearer will be so busy processing hurt and resentment and anger, they won't even hear the 'truth' I think I told them.
@SW-User Thank you. ❤️

@Mamapolo2016 You're welcome. Thank you for pointing out how the one being told a truth may take it all.

I don’t think so. A lot of the time, honesty in itself is an act of kindness. It’s about being tactful.
SW-User
@QueenOfTheNerds Kindly I say, a septum ring makes one look like a cow.
QueenOfTheNerds · 41-45, F
@SW-User I respect that it’s your opinion, and your right to feel that way. However, if my nose holes offend you, moooooove along. 🐮
SW-User
@QueenOfTheNerds Cows don't offend me, I'm not a vegetarian.
helenS · 36-40, F
Actually, honesty and kindness are (almost) the same thing. How can you be kind, without being honest? Lying is not kind.
@SW-User exactly

@NoGamesTolerated

Something we finally agree on Helen….
Wait until I'm finished reading Dr. Marx' book!
@helenS atta girl Helen.. NOT! 😖
Manfredthemanic · 16-17, M
I think that even if you're being nice and honest, some people will still be offended by it if they don't like to hear the truth. 🙈😊
Manfredthemanic · 16-17, M
@NoGamesTolerated Thank you. I was just saying what I think. 🙈
@Manfredthemanic And it’s the truth my friend… I agree 150%.. people want you to tell them what they want to hear.. as for me, I want the truth even when it’s bitter. I can deal with the truth. It’s the lies that trip me up. 😒
Manfredthemanic · 16-17, M
@NoGamesTolerated Yes, me too. Some people tell me I'm too honest and rude, but I don't think so. If you're not a bad person, I won't say anything. 🙈🙈
I think one's tone has a lot to do with it. If someone is speaking harshly it is offensive. If spoken using softer words then the critism/honesty is easier to take.
@BlondilyOld agree… telling truth with concern for the person’s feelings …
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
As well to say it as think it🤷‍♂️
Honesty is always best
SW-User
@Virgo79 Yep. Honesty is the best policy. I'd prefer it given in a kind way when possible.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
@SW-User yep there's ways to go about it on certain subjects.
SW-User
@Virgo79 That be for sure! lol
I’ve found sometimes telling the truth with sugar dripping from one’s lips isn’t something some can accept. They will kick back no matter how sweet you present it,
SW-User
Honestly I’ve always been kind 😊
helenS · 36-40, F
@SW-User Kind Regards!
SW-User
Aww ☺️. Honestly 🤗@helenS
Carlisle · F
Being honest can be kind. But if it’s a sensitive subject I try not to be….brutally honest.
SW-User
Tact and tone
ShadowWorker · 61-69, F
@SW-User yes!!
Kindness when being honest may require a greater use of diplomacy, especially when addressing something negative.
Honesty doesn't have to be brutal.
You can be kind without lies.
Compassion is the key and kindness costs nothing.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
I don't like brutal honesty, because it is brutal
I do value honesty.
I don't think those who dish out brutal honesty like when it's dished out on them.
SW-User
@Justmeraeagain that's a good point. Many of us prefer a bit of kindness when being given the truth.
toddr13 · 46-50, M
Choice of language and means of delivery are the key elements to avoid brutal honesty.
SW-User
@toddr13 Very true. I always say that how a message is delivered is just as important as the message.
SW-User
It's not hard, no. That's what being tactful is all about. Honesty isn't always helpful or noble in itself and brutal honesty is more about callousness than compassion.
@SW-User Damn, that was very thoughtful of you. 👏👍
cycleman · 61-69, M
depends what side of yourself you really truly want to exhibit.
SW-User
It is for me sometimes but I do try my best
ShadowWorker · 61-69, F
Wonderful post.
SW-User
@ShadowWorker Thank you. :)
JerseyGal · 56-60, F
I try to be kind and always honest.
I won't sugarcoat anything though, yet still try to be kind about it.
smiler2012 · 61-69
{@breezybree] you can be cruel to be kind to put someone on the right road with tact
SpaceTy · M
You can't do it right for everyone.
No, diplomacy is not that difficult if one considers how he or she would want to be given the information.
Keepitsimple · 56-60, F
I don’t think there’s a kind way of saying “You’re sleazy and make me want to throw up” unless I pour sugar on it.
Keepitsimple · 56-60, F
@SW-User Truth right there 👍
helenS · 36-40, F
@Keepitsimple You have really a different approach to life! 🤭
Keepitsimple · 56-60, F
@helenS I’m not passive, no. I won’t be an idiot for anyone.
