It makes insecure people feel even more insecure to know that they don’t own the power dynamic in the relationship.
Imaginethat · 61-69, M
@Imaginethat and also would make you beholden to a stranger, as there could be all sorts of unknown conditions attached.
BlueVeins · 22-25
Power dynamics, depending on your definition of financially stable, or insecure people. 🤷♂️

They want everything for themselves or they feel like they aren’t successful enough or simply because they are scared of having to rely on them or it’s an ego thing.
longhairedcougar · 51-55, F
@SW-User it most certainly is male ego
OwnerOfMany · 90-99, M
I assume you mean HE feels threatened by HER success. That is a macho prick throwback, aka male insecurity.

@OwnerOfMany Well, I know I'm not a bigot, lol... I'm all for actual real equality. A world of meritocracy where ability gets you places, not skin colour or what you have between your legs.
I'm not however blind to that fact that people do have differences, but those differences are not there to divide us, they are there to be slotted together like a huge, complicated jigsaw puzzle to give us a full picture of humanity.
I just object when some people think that certain puzzle pieces have more worth than others.

@longhairedcougar You have totally missed the point of the entire conversation. You made a statement which was factually incorrect and I provided an example of how you were incorrect using the two of us as examples.
You've responded with personal attacks after feeling threatened for some reason I assume.

@Quizzical you and your assumptions 🤦♀ grow up kid.. Just the physical dimensions don't matter 🤣
hlpflwthat · M
For the first 25 years of marriage, mrs hlpflwthat slowly & steadily closed the gap om me being the majority bread winner till about 2012. Since that time she has buried me and we really couldn't be happier.

They jealous

Hmm. The ex had the opposite problem. Used to tell me about how much money his bosses wife was making...$20 k more a year than me...and as I recall I was thrilled with my salary at the time...😂. But he wanted me to earn more. His own self esteem was all tied up in his competition with his boss, and I was just one more way to one up. It's classic low self esteem.
JRVanguard · 26-30, M
Because if my wife makes more than me, it means my peepee is tiny😣
longhairedcougar · 51-55, F
Been there a few times...My husband never used to take me seriously whenever it came to business decisions and strategies.. It was quite rough initially... But soon he realised what I had to offer and it made huge profits..
I make more than what he does now 🙈( I have a lot that's only my baby)

Someone is meant to be property in traditional marriage
BiasForAction · M
i don't know--i was thrilled when my spouse made more money than I did and I would be thrilled if she were to replace me as the breadwinner now.
Ryannnnnn · 31-35, M
Maybe they feel like they feel pressured to bring in the same like they aren't contributing enough.
turningthekeys · 31-35, F
@Ryannnnnn hmm...yes that could be a reason.

Inferiority complex

They are not well matched. Also note women will generally only go out with and tie themselves to men who are their socio-economic superiors or equals. That is part of their being hypergamous maters. Men mate across and down dominance heirarchies whereas women mate across and up dominance heirarchies.
turningthekeys · 31-35, F
@ClanNaFiacaillApWythe only a man who has never gone to sleep hungry could complain about that.
Anonymartyr · M
@ClanNaFiacaillApWythe Which s why I have little sympathy for women getting beat by their boyfriends- most often they caused it themselves by deception.
ClanNaFiacaillApWythe · 51-55, M
@Anonymartyr Well there is a difference between bonding oneself with a winner and a brute. They are not necessarily the same thing.

Insecurity and fixated on a certain way of doing things
YoMomma · 41-45
Idk they should be happy for them imo.. it must be their ego or something .. who knows
Anonymartyr · M
Because they are in love with money and not their spouse.
Chevy454 · 46-50, M
It’s kind hard when they make more than you.
turningthekeys · 31-35, F
@Chevy454 what's hard? not having to worry about where the family's next meal is going to come from? being able to afford more than just basic necessities of life for yourselves and your kids? Not having to sleep cold and hungry?
turningthekeys · 31-35, F
@Chevy454 what permission? and major purchases already require both spouses to come to an agreement. What has it got to do with one or the other making more?
vetguy1991 · 51-55, M
Beats me 🤷♂️
bijouxbroussard · F
That happens when the person’s too controlling and insecure about their spouse being able to leave and survive alone.

Because they're dumb ass men, lol.
Zaxel · 26-30, M
@SW-User its true, what he said was taken out of context, but it doesnt change what im pretty sure is misandrist views on your part. i just see my role as to explain the positions here when i see theres miscommunication, not force people to own up to anything
i agree though, theres many men with issues on self security that need to work on it

SW-User
@Zaxel It isn't a "misandrist view" to acknowledge that this is pretty much usually a male problem. It's a product of western society, not me taking a hit at men as a whole. I think most people can see who is affected most by these weird financial insecurities (obviously people that are expected by society to do well financially = men)
Zaxel · 26-30, M
@SW-User sure i agree for the most part
