Do you think Star Trek should do more for LGBTQ+ issues?

Years ago, Star Trek was the first to broadcast a kiss between a white guy and a black women. That was good. But the show never shows gay or gender fluid people. That is bad.
God I hope we are still not confused by sex issues in the future..

Beam me the fuck away Scotty

You've obviously not watched Star Trek Discovery, which, although bloody awful, has a gay couple (the chief engineer and the chief medical officer) serving aboard the starship.

@SassySarah Then why did the potential issue bother you? 🤔

@Quizzical because its a show that usually has a lot of influence

@SassySarah Well, it's doesn't so much these days I'm afraid. They've become overly interested in promoting social issues rather than telling a good story, and the viewership has reduced because of it.

i don't like star trek, so they can do whatever.. i hate when tv shows and movies do things just to pander to lgbtq community.. They should just focus on good story telling and not let outside influences infect their work

I care more about good story lines than social issues.

Yeah they tried hard bless them but it's still very much of it's time. The original still had a law that women couldn't be captains, the next generation only had women as a doctor and a counselor - admittedly they had a security chief but they killed her off WAY early - and everyone was white except the alien.

I think that's what "Another World" on Netflix was meant to be. If you Google a few pictures, you'll see most of the crew look halfway between male and female

No it wasn’t bad. Interracial relationships were much more common at that time than openly gay people .

I did like the dresses that were worn by all genders in the next generation.

They dabbled a few times but could have done way more
