Usually three times, and then they also get it from my hand 😟
Coralmist · 41-45, F
@SW-User I know that sometimes they put people at risk for heart attack or stroke on aspirin...maybe you can check at next Dr appt🍀
SW-User
Thank you. I’ll ask the doc when I see him next. 🤗@Coralmist

@SW-User No prob 🙂
Mine are terrible, but part of the issue is I don't drink enough water. Nurses always say my veins "roll". Parents used to have to kick them out after they blow a vein or two, tried both arms, both hands, go to my feet, then start talking about my knees. -_- god I hate needles
@NativeOregonian I would agree, but I have noticed they only have to try two or three times if I drink a crap ton before. If I don't drink it's like my first comment.

@boklenholley7 Do a test next few times, when they are having issues trying to find a vein, are they applying a lot of pressure with their fingers, or barely touching.
chuck7882 · 61-69, M
@boklenholley7 I drank a ton of water before going there today hoping it would help. It didn't

I'm what they call a DIVA (difficult intravenous access). Haha Only found that out yesterday it had a name, need the Ultrasound Department to help. Two nurses and two doctors had tried unsuccessfully to insert a canula but the PICC crew got it in one.
Zoranna · F
@NativeOregonian I have. Water/hydration is not the problem with me nor is their competence. As I said there's a very good reason why they can't find my viens easily now. In fact the PICC guy said I'm an extreme DIVA and that was with his ultrasound equipment.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@Zoranna The only thing I can think of is that your veins are intramuscular instead of externalmuscular.
Zoranna · F
@NativeOregonian I have no idea what that means but with the amount of canulas I've had to have inserted I'm sure I would have heard someone mention that which they haven't. I know the reason.
SwampFlower · 31-35, F
I have a port now but it was getting pretty ridiculous before. Sorry you've have such a rough time today.
I've been told my veins are "nurse porn"
SW-User
IV drug users porn too 🤣@SooperSarah

If I'm prepared and extra hydrated, usually just one. If I'm dehydrated they might not get blood from anywhere (they have offered to try for the neck after my arms and hands failed). I think the most it has taken was 12 tries, after 3 attempts they call in a specialist for it and it took a needle size usually reserved for babies.
I'm a fucking hard stick. It's taken multiple sticks and calls for reinforcements.

When I had my last baby I had a post partum hemorrhage and they couldn't find a vein. It was tense few minutes.
chuck7882 · 61-69, M
@chuck7882 I started feeling cold and distant. And was pale and weak for weeks after.
chuck7882 · 61-69, M
@ProdigalSummer that had to be terrifying
SW-User
If it’s in my right arm, one go. In my left there’s scar tissue from when I used to poke the coke, and when I used to do that it used to take several goes till I found a vein and I always thought (how do the blood nurses get it first go?) 🤣😂
SW-User
I can't remember a time where they had to stick me twice. I'm lucky I guess.
Powderflask · 31-35, M
Happens sometimes, but not all care givers are gentle about it
Effloresce · 26-30, F
Just once usually. Doctors always say I have great veins
SW-User
Only one poke most of the time. I always ask for them to take it from the top of my hands where I have a lot of veins.
SW-User
@chuck7882 Just ask for them to do hands then. They'll always try that first if you ask.
NativeOregonian · 51-55
@SW-User That is the most painful spot.
SW-User
@NativeOregonian Really? It doesn't hurt me at all. Feels better than going in the elbow.

I have large veins...I can see them from the surface.
If they can’t hit my vein the first time, their aim is awful.
SW-User
Never had a problem with them finding my veins. I just tend to feel like I'm going to faint afterwards...
NativeOregonian · 51-55
The vampires at my local clinic are worthless, I have to have monthly draws to check my blood thinner level.
Ouch. They always get me on the first try, idk if I can stand that much pricking.
SW-User
On my left arm it's impossible
On my right much quicker
curiosi · 61-69, F
Once but the often make me very black and blue.
exexec · 61-69, C
They love my veins, so it only takes one stick.
Roatlamb · 41-45, M
Depending on the size of the axe
