What is your opinion on math?

Do you find that math is usefull, and it is something that we can not live like. Do you think it is a devlish device that teacher use to torture their students?
I would love to hear your opinion on math, if you would like to share it.

Basic math is essential for day to day living.
Something costs $9:50 and I give a $20 note and since I know basic math I expect $10:50 change.

I am amazed at the younger generation can't do basic math using their own brains.
Not long ago I was at a shop and it's the same example I gave above but the shops Cash register was not working and the young shop assistant could not work out the change to give me using her own brains so we wasted time while she ran around looking for a pocket calculator all the while more people was lineing up behind me getting frustrated because she could not do very basic math using her own brain.

@Robynthebeautiful Yes indeed calculations is also an essential tool! I personally think it due to the mobile and electronic. So they do not practice it or try to get better at it. Therefore, they will find themself in a situation that requires such technology to do it for them! Like going to the library vs googling it! Oh boy!
But I might be wrong!

When electronics was alowed in school I could see that the future is grim.

WEll I might be! it is bad if they do not learn multiplication or adding, I can defently see someone arguing for that. However, I would not really mind if they got a more clear idea of what math is. Then it would be alright.

I have an appreciation for math, though I'm not very good at it. Basic math is applicable to most areas in life. I use it absolutely every day and it makes my life easier.

@AmbivalentFriability Yes indeed! A fun fact, next time you listen to music on spotify or whatever! and you think the instruments are played good, and you can hear them well! Then it is acctually math that does it! For example, in a orchestra that have violins and trumpets! How do we make sure that their sound does not ruin the quality of their sound, when recorded through a mic! Well we use fourier transformation! Math made your day for the beautiful music!

@SW-User Oh sorry if made myself unclear, I was thinking the difference of survival and surviving. Since math can help in surviving, not not as much for survival.
Well it is a current theory that bacteria have travelled through space. Another theory that supports that, is the first bacteria to form here was from Mars! Would be hard to know for sure!

Well yes. Just perhaps argue that it is not all there is to math. Nevertheless, sure it can be argued that it just what a calculater does.

@Allelse Well some would argue it is a bit like learning a new language. The more you do it the better you get. The more you work on the gramma, the better your algebra becomes etc.
