Question about sharing a room

Poll - Total Votes: 10
Totally ok as long as he doesn't partake in the group outings
Not ok but if no one finds out...
Definitely something that should be discussed and approved by group guide

I'll be traveling to Europe in August. I'll be part of an organized group tour. I have a friend that lives in the country I'll be visiting, but is from outside the city I'll be in. We would like to meet up. Would I get in trouble for allowing him to share my room if he's not part of the group?

Serious answers only, and especially if you're sure of the answer as opposed to guessing.
I have a serious question about this first. How many people are in the group, and, does everyone in the group have their own room, or would you have to share with someone in the group?

Here's what I'm thinking. If your friend comes and the group sees that, there's gonna be questions about why is another person in the room with you.

I think if you ask the group guide, it's probably going to be no. That's like, if I had a friend living in Annapolis MD., and we went on a field trip and I asked my friend to meet up, it wouldn't work because I can't just go off where I want, and if this random person shows up, the chaperones are gonna say, who is this person? They shouldn't be here etc. etc. and I'd get in trouble.
@twiigss thank you. It makes sense. Ugh. More things to think about.
@uniqueness1 you're welcome :)
@twiigss 👍

It’s your room that you paid for, so I don’t see a problem. Who you have in your room is your business.
@Carissimi what if I paid my room as ''1'' person?
akindheart · 61-69, F
i have travelled many times to Europe. I think it will be a problem. The hotel wants their charges by head.

@akindheart
The hotel wants their charges by head.
Really? I've just checked the price for a room at the Van Der Valk Hotel Drongen in Ghent. For a room without breakfast it costs the same whether there are two occupants or one, 87.50 EUR. If you include breakfast then the price does increase when adding a person.

Similarly for the Nordic Choice hotels in Norway except that in this case they don't offer the option to have room only without breakfast so adding a person adds the price of breakfast.

Similarly when picking a random hotel in England on Booking.com.

So it is definitely not universal that hotels in Europe charge per head for the room.

Ask the group organizers this. No European country cares who you stay with or who stays with you.

Yes I have been to Europe.
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
@uniqueness1 the saying really doesn't apply.

Your with a tour group. You're not going to hide your friend from them either way. They will know.
@DeWayfarer my friend would NOT participate in anything with the group, not even breakfast which is included in price of the room.

Don't put others at risk by letting this person around the group without their knowledge.
I understand you trust him, but you should respect the others.
@calicuz I think you misunderstood. He would NEVER participate with the group, not even the breakfast which is included in the room price. He would only share time with me out and about when we have ''free time" blocks (not with the group) during the trip. And my room since he would be from out of town and needs to sleep somewhere.

@uniqueness1

Ok, I still think you should tell the group leaders.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
Are you paying extra taxes br travelling alone. If so, it would seem you should be allowed.
@samueltyler2 Yes, I am paying extra taxes for having a room to myself (a total of 800$ for a two-week trip!)
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@uniqueness1 seems to me then, you should be able to invite a person to spend the night with you.

{@ninalanyon] 😆unless you are british or google it does this hotel have barry foster haunting it then
Steve42 · 56-60, M
Ask the people conducting the tour.
@Steve42 Have you ever travelled to Europe and/or asked the guide about it?
Steve42 · 56-60, M
@uniqueness1 Never as part of a tour group.
pancakeslam · 41-45, M
isn't there some middle ground between being sure and guessing?🤔
