Unplanned road trip.

Have you ever just packed a suitcase, jumped in the car and headed out? No destination in mind, no reservations. I took a three week trip like that a few years back. No stress and so relaxing.

Im too afraid to do that. Lol i watch too many movies and it would be just my luck if i pull into a motel or hotel with a serial killer 😅
Sevendays · M
@AngelUnforgiven lock your door. 🙂
AngelUnforgiven · 46-50, F
@Sevendays that never works in the movies 🤣
Sevendays · M
@AngelUnforgiven true. I'll admit I stayed at some sketchy motels to save money
Sounds great. I’ve done several road trips, absolutely loved them but they were at least minimally planned/outlined.
meggie · F
Yes I did that a few years ago on the UK coast and had a great time.

I had an ex who was streaming different newcast acorss the country and decided to impulsively book a trip to new york because it was going to be unusually warm for that time of the year. It was a good trip but never knew someone who could travel like that
Sevendays · M
@Toofargone spontaneity is important.
Ramrod · 46-50, M
No,not where i packed a suitcase, but i have many times just drove for hours not knowing where i was going and have came across some really cool places in my state of Ohio that i never been to before. :)

@Ramrod Those are awesome day trips. 🙂
I packed lots of bags but never went anywhere.. i also ran off without my bags but returned home.. now i got rid of all my escape bags as i got too fat to fit in anything in them anymore 😅 also i resigned from trying to escape 😅 but i'll go somewhere someday

If most people in America took a three-week road trip... They would either have to be independently wealthy or find another job when they got back
Sevendays · M
@Justmeraeagain I worked for myself so that was not an issue. My employees kept things going.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
@Justmeraeagain Or be retired.
Justmeraeagain · 56-60, F
@Musicman true

Too many responsibilities. Plus I would not really want to. But if I had lots of money, that’s probably what I would do. But I’ve got three children and four grandchildren and we all live together
I've done that hiking before. It's interesting seeing a mountain range pop up, then you get to a fork in the road and gotta decide on which side you are gonna walk on it. You always regret not seeing the other side.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
Planning one for next year.. Its complicated. I still dont know which direction..😷
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@swirlie My options are west, through North. I am already South..😷
swirlie · 31-35, F
@whowasthatmaskedman
Yes, I know you're already South, but if you go south from where you are, you'll end up in Antartica, right?! 🥶
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
@swirlie Exactly so. We get our winters off the world biggest Ice block..😷
MarineBob · 56-60, M
I have cabins in different directions that has food and clothes at each. So it happens quite often
Patriot96 · 56-60, C
No interstates, just backroads and old highways with an Atlas from 1983
Sevendays · M
@Patriot96 that would be the best.
ninalanyon · 61-69, T
Not quite. When I go on holiday to the UK I generally plan when to leave but apart from booking the ferry from Norway to Denmark I usually don't book anything else. I generally wait until I'm a bit closer to my destination before doing that. And then I just book a room or cottage for a week or two and while I'm there I decide where I'll go next.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
I don't have a car and my driving skills are in a cradle still.
Northwest · M
I did a sailing trip like this once.
Sevendays · M
@Northwest even better.
1490wayb · 56-60, M
very expensive
Sevendays · M
@1490wayb it was about $200 per day for lodging, food and gas
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
In 2025 I would love to take the motorhome out for a couple of three week trips. I am so ready to just get away.
Musicman · 61-69, MVIP
That is so awesome! Keep us updated and post pictures of your trip. This is so exciting! 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂
Greyhound and amtrak were my preferred methods back in the 90's, I still used them as recently as 2019

@NativePortlander1970 I actually don't know. It was pitch black out and raining. Cars were flying past us. The engine brake and I became best friends that night. We were in the Blue Ridge mountains. I was terrified. Those hills were like going straight up then straight down. It was so dark I couldn't see shit.
@NativePortlander1970 when my parents emigrated to canada in 1967 the first landed in quebec city...they then took a train all the way across canada to bc. they were so much in awe especially when they hit the rocky mountains,,,yes a train is a great way to see one's country or another 👍
@beermeplease I'd love to travel the Canadian Rail one day, the Rockies and Cascades are Awesome by train.
