Have you ever just packed a suitcase, jumped in the car and headed out? No destination in mind, no reservations. I took a three week trip like that a few years back. No stress and so relaxing.

I've done that hiking before. It's interesting seeing a mountain range pop up, then you get to a fork in the road and gotta decide on which side you are gonna walk on it. You always regret not seeing the other side.
