Have you ever just packed a suitcase, jumped in the car and headed out? No destination in mind, no reservations. I took a three week trip like that a few years back. No stress and so relaxing.

@NativePortlander1970 I miss traveling too. We have taken two seven week trips. I would clean the motorhome before we left. Then spend a day loading it. Warm and cold weather clothes. Also a set of nice clothes just in case. We have a full kitchen with a residential electric refrigerator too. We even have a washer and dryer. Once we are fully loaded we have our own condo on wheels. No hotel rooms. We have our vacation home with us. That means kitty can travel with us. We flat tow our car behind us so once we are parked and set up we have a way to get around. My wife can even use the bathroom while I drive. She even has full access to the refrigerator for snacks and drinks while we are going down the road. I am glad you liked the train and bus, but after traveling in the motorhome that is definitely my preferred method.
@Musicman I can imagine the freedom, but mountain passes have always made me nervous driving them in a car, I'm too anxious to even think about them in an RV.
@NativePortlander1970 I would tell you the story of our first trip, but you wouldn't sleep tonight. Lol!!! Owning a construction company I have driven well over a million miles. Fortunately I feel very comfortable driving.
@NativePortlander1970 I actually don't know. It was pitch black out and raining. Cars were flying past us. The engine brake and I became best friends that night. We were in the Blue Ridge mountains. I was terrified. Those hills were like going straight up then straight down. It was so dark I couldn't see shit.
@NativePortlander1970 when my parents emigrated to canada in 1967 the first landed in quebec city...they then took a train all the way across canada to bc. they were so much in awe especially when they hit the rocky mountains,,,yes a train is a great way to see one's country or another 👍
