Orlando is the number one place to go. Disney World and Universal studios just to name a couple.
LisaZhang · 36-40, F
@Redbeard Thanks for the reminder, I think I will go there and watch it again
Redbeard · 56-60, M
@LisaZhang You're very welcome. There's lots of other nice places to visit as well.

If you are set on Miami, you'll be very close Everglades National Park; go see it while you can, as well as the keys.

If you want to see more, up the coast you can see the NASA's Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral/Kennedy/Canaveral.

There's also the Salvador Dalí Museum is in St. Petersburg, Florida; it has been totally rebuilt and I believe that they habe the largest Dalí collection in the world.

If you are down by the Tropic of Cancer, notice how high the Sun is at noon! (It's directly overhead there on the Summer solstice; it is never directly overhead anywhere further North.)
@Musicman Exactly! Do check the schedule!
Musicman · 61-69, M
@SomeMichGuy I haven't in a few months. A good friend of mine is currently working in Orlando. He has a motorhome too. We keep talking about taking the motorhomes up and watching a launch. He has done it before. He says it is so cool! 😎
@Musicman NOW you are talking!

Bok towers.
Seaplane base
Dry totugas
The Venetian pool
Manatee Springs
Savatore Dali museum
Crandon Park Zoo
Stiltzville
Neptune underwater city of the dead
Site of the rosewood massacre
Blue Grotto Diving

Oh yeah if you do go there in a hot month you won't be waiting in lines a mile long so if anyone says don't go in August then definitely go in August. Wear a big straw hat and carry plenty of water.

This isn't even a short list Florida is jamb packed with sites to see. Just start by ignoring the big old mouse theme park.
Confined · 56-60, M
We go to Destin FL every year. Condo on the beach.

Ferric67 · M
@Confined I've considered buying property on destin
Confined · 56-60, M
@Ferric67 if you have the money, go for it. I love the white sand.
Mk8155 · M
Florida is beautiful but the humidity and buds are terrible in August. The beaches are great and the theme parks are sleays fun. The keys are amazing
LisaZhang · 36-40, F
@Mk8155 Looks like I'm going to go diving at the beach then😁
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@LisaZhang Do you know when you are going?
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@Mk8155 It is humid during the day but at at night it's sultry. I love it.
crownedwithlaurel97 · 26-30, F
honestly florida is an awful place to be in august cause it’s so hot and humid. i’d suggest near a beach or pool wherever you go. source: i live here
LisaZhang · 36-40, F
@crownedwithlaurel97 thanks for your reminder. I think I should go to Miami and be a mermaid diving there so I can avoid the sun. Ha ha🤣
Sevendays · M
Siesta Key has been named one of the most beautiful beaches in the US. I tend to agree, love it there.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@Sevendays Siesta Key is absolutely beautiful 😍😍😍😍 it is one of the top 8 beaches in the world, not just America.
exexec · 61-69, C
@Sevendays My wife's uncle had a condo on the beach on Siesta Key. Beautiful place. White sand, clear water.
Sevendays · M
@exexec yes, I love it there.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
I have never been there in August. Too hot and humid. It is already too hot and humid up north where I live, that time of year.

But I have been there in winter. I stayed near Miami, on the beach, which was nice. But hotels are expensive, and so is parking! Fights were relatively cheap, though.

One year I flew to Key West. That is unique. Not great beaches, but good nightlife. I swam in a pool and never in the Ocean.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@LisaZhang

Miami Beach has a vibrant night life.
LisaZhang · 36-40, F
@JoyfulSilence Do people dance there in Miami Beach at night?
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@LisaZhang

Yes. I did one evening.
eventtemple123 · 22-25, M
The panhandle beaches are the most beautiful.
Musicman · 61-69, M
@eventtemple123 My wife and I really like Panama City Beach.
LisaZhang · 36-40, F
@eventtemple123 Thank you for the reminder, I believe it is so beautiful as you said
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@eventtemple123 I go to the Destin area once or twice a year.

Southern Florida

Coral castle museum
One of the most fascinating museums in America
I live in Miami and can tell you what's up.
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
Depends greatly on where in Florida you want to go and what you want to do. You can easily spend a week in Orlando. Disney, Universal Studios, Epcot, Church street at night, Daytona beach about an hours drive from there.
LisaZhang · 36-40, F
@Nitedoc It seems like you know Florida very well. Where do you live?
Nitedoc · 51-55, M
@LisaZhang I live in Arkansas but I 've been to different places in Florida many times. I can drive to Destin in one long day.
RedBaron · M
August is an awful time of year to be in Florida.

Much better to go in winter to get out of the cold up north.
@LisaZhang "Spring break" in Miami beach is famous. Great art deco architecture there. And lots of bikini-d bodies.
RedBaron · M
@LamontCranston Plus overcrowding and underage drinking. Fun if you’re 20, but I’ll pass.
@RedBaron It is unlikely to be an experience I'll repeat. But it worked for me especially in relieving pandemic shtdowns most everywhere else.
Jenny1234 · 51-55, F
The gulf coast is best
Pfuzylogic · M
atlantic for the fast side of Florida like Miami and Fort Lauderdale.
For a more relaxed place try the Gulf Coast Orlando is great for kids or if you are looking for amusement park entertainment.
Animalvan · 56-60, M
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
I hate the be Debbie-downer, but, to stay cool, stay under water, stay from hurricanes.
LisaZhang · 36-40, F
@samueltyler2 If you want to stay underwater, I think diving is a good choice.
Musicman · 61-69, M
St Augustine is fabulous. I love Key West. Sarasota is very nice. Everyone loves Destin.
2ndtimeguy · 61-69, M
It will be hott in August make sure you are close to the air conditioning

LisaZhang · 36-40, F
