@robb65 Auto lock doors are pretty much foolproof. Was it a maglock? One that is able to be unlocked at a distance? We don't have that much evidence.

@hippyjoe1955 I've wondered about the details but no one is talking yet. The only thing that has been said is that the video that was originally claimed to show the teacher propping it open moments before the shooter entered in fact showed her closing it.

@robb65 Yes the initial report said she propped it open. Later reports said that she slammed it shut. Not sure how the door came to be open so conveniently for the murderer.

@GrinNude I'm not even sure our lawmakers know which end the bullet comes out. Two identical rifles, the Russian SKS and the Chinese SKS. These are actual military surplus rifles and not something built to look like a military rifle. If there were any differences it was in the quality of the finish. The Russian SKS was placed on the "Curios and Relics" list which meant the "ban" didn't apply, while the Chinese version went from being available with the bayonet attached, to being sold with the bayonet in the box but not attached, to being sold with the bayonet removed from the box but you could go back the next day and buy the bayonet separately. As near as I can remember, if the rifle was purchased before a certain date you could legally have the bayonet attached and convert the rife to accept 30 round mags, but after a certain date you couldn't. Of course it would be next to impossible to tell if one was legal or not by just looking at it. And obviously the Russian version wasn't any "less dangerous" than the Chinese, and removing the bayonet from the Chinese version didn't make it less dangerous than it was with the bayonet. All a bunch of BS dreamed up by people without a clue to make other people who didn't have a clue feel safer.

@HarryHawk What do you think would have happened? He certainly wouldn't be in the building for some time and the teachers could have got the children into secure areas while the loon with the gun runs amuck in the school yard.

@hippyjoe1955 he would have gone somewhere else, maybe a shopping mall, and killed who knows how many people?

@HarryHawk His stated goal going back months was to shoot up a school. We have no way of knowing what he would have done had the door been closed. He might have been frustrated and blown his brains out in the parking lot we don't know. We do know he would have been on foot because he wrecked his truck in the drainage ditch.

@Wol62 Hue and Cry is an old expression used to describe the mania that society gets into when it is trying to solve a crime or chase down the perpetrator. I have never seen the film you mentioned.

@GrinNude Can you tell me what an assault style rifle? Honest question. Is it a semi automatic? Automatic? Does it have a pistol grip? Does it have quick replace magazines? Please help me understand.

@GrinNude The only one obfuscating is you. You refuse to define what clearly needs to be defined. 'assault style rifle' could be any kind of rifle including air rifles.
