sad news--wife had stroke

Sadly, my wife of many years, who was already in poor health, just had a massive stroke. I sit with her in the hospital, but she does not wake up or respond, 8 days in now. Need hope...not knowing is so difficult. Thank you.

Your best source of information is her doctor. He or she can tell you her chances of recovery.

There are also programs for caregivers of survivors of stroke. One is the National Stroke Association. There is also the American Stroke Association, and the Stroke Network.

All of these have educational outreach, and you can find out more about strokes and the rehabilitation process.

If you local hospital offers it, you might be able to join a support group and meet other people who are helping their loved ones recover from a stroke.

@4meAndyou Thank you so much. Yes, I listen to her doctors, who are very good and honest. They say it is still too early to know...but the last 3 days seem to have been worse. I will certainly seek out one of the groups you mention--right now i sit with her all day....but the sadness and uncertainty are starting to sink in.
