why is expressing and being oneself being looked down by norms and society?

is it to keep the ecosystem of society. is it to keep order or do people [groups and cliques] just envy our individuality to the point that we are the first easy targets because we defy the natural order of society by being different and unique from the rest of the crowd simply by being ourselves

i see injustice when those pesky societal crabs keeps pulling individuals down to their level...

Being from a different era I see the opposite, to be honest, people demanding that their differences, no matter how unappealing or destructive be accepted by the majority.
Being oneself is great, but you have to keep in mind not everyone is going to accept everything about you nor do they have any obligation to do so.
What they do not have a right to do is to be unkind or harassing.

i had heard of people expressing their significance to others...and most of them are branded "special snowflake"

yes it may be a bit of true still to those who really fight for their identities well i applaud them for fighting the influence of peer pressure

Society don't want to be real with one another and want every person to be a mindless cog in a unified machine that has no individuality.

you talking about the huge eye inside a triangle right? i had heard talks about the illuminati wanting a totalitarian regime when they eliminate all religions
SW-User
Well, the illuminati eye, yes, but I actually meant the "eye" that is Big Brother's surveillance cameras.

@ShadowShifter: ah yes this...[youtube=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMOGaugKpzs] (just some random reference)

I think you should stand up for what you believe in even if that means standing alone. Some of the most wicked things in the world happen because people who want to be part of the crowd and desire to be accepted more than anything else are not willing to stand alone and say, "That is wrong !"

oh believe me i had my share of encounters with Crabs in the past i just can't help but talk down the oppressors of the weak using venomous words towards a group of Cool Kids bullies who are the real losers in my eyes

means girls group, cool kids group, well i had my encounters in the end...individuals had their wings clipped by those crabs and eventually fell to peer pressure while i stood alone like a lone rebel not giving a damn what others think of me. their words are mere bullets that can't even aim right at me

But would you mean with this being looked down by a neighbour, a friend.. for example, to be more specific?
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
i don't care for popularity nor do i want to "fit in" some even consider me a "special snowflake" for expressing my individuality too much, while others say i'm an anti-conformist...its not like i go against whatever the group goes for... i sometimes like things liked by others
Mpzhr · F
@quinnVneck: be yourself. That's good. But, yeah I feel it calls people's attention. I like discussion and honesty, or transparency when one expresses their opinion
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
normally i'm the bystander of things and the sad reality is that even as individuals we are sometimes forced to keep the ecosystem of society and not disrupt it...
theMeggyD · 22-25, F
we are expected by society to fit into little boxes defined by the same society and as soon as we start to be ourselves and express our selves society starts to panic
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
when the rebel stands & fight in the totalitarian rule...then Big Brother should be extinguish so we are free to be ourselves

problemis mob rules and if they get a sniff of anybody being interestign they want to get rid og you
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
so they want to keep "order" of zombies so nobody would be feared for being different and hard to manipulate...

because people fear anybody who can't be manipulated
Mpzhr · F
@quinnVneck: I agree. People are easy to manipulate.
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
those who have submitted to Peer Pressure are the ones who are easy to manipulate...that's why to take down anyone who is different means the use of oppressive submissions just to clip their wings off and turn them into mindless sheep

Expressing and being oneself is an expression of empowerment and independence.

If family members contribute to your well being they might expect some control over your life.
sighmeupforthat · 46-50, M
is this a foreword to bad poetry?
quinnVneck · 31-35, F
nope its not even poetry. its a description and my cry to stand for individuality
Is not something they expect.
