why is expressing and being oneself being looked down by norms and society?

is it to keep the ecosystem of society. is it to keep order or do people [groups and cliques] just envy our individuality to the point that we are the first easy targets because we defy the natural order of society by being different and unique from the rest of the crowd simply by being ourselves

i see injustice when those pesky societal crabs keeps pulling individuals down to their level...

But would you mean with this being looked down by a neighbour, a friend.. for example, to be more specific?

this applies mostly in a school setting...Cliques and Cool Kids group for instance always picks on the Odd one just because they are minding their own business and doesn't follow the "cool kids" norm/mentality

every time i see a group ganging up on an individual...i feel the need to shove a mirror to their face or put them in a giant bucket and ask all of them to try to go free only to be pulled by each other downwards showing to all that they are the crabs of society with crab mentality

Yes, I find this a lot in America mostly, from what i feel by reading but can be everywhere But in the end it's being ourself what is most important. And these people will succeed. Not necessary to be popular. However we are always judged.

i don't care for popularity nor do i want to "fit in" some even consider me a "special snowflake" for expressing my individuality too much, while others say i'm an anti-conformist...its not like i go against whatever the group goes for... i sometimes like things liked by others

@quinnVneck: be yourself. That's good. But, yeah I feel it calls people's attention. I like discussion and honesty, or transparency when one expresses their opinion

normally i'm the bystander of things and the sad reality is that even as individuals we are sometimes forced to keep the ecosystem of society and not disrupt it...
