Great that you realized that you wanted to be someone that would please others.
And it wasn’t your mistake. We live in a society where we don’t follow what we preach to others.
It’s better late than never. Now enjoy being you. Feeling comfortable in your skin is such a beautiful feeling itself.

I understand this. I think this is part of the experience of being a person of color alone in a largely white environment.
When I was young, my parents moved to a newly integrated city (mainly because we were there) and sent me to the all-white Catholic school.
The reason was because they believed that sending me (and my siblings who followed) to a "good" school would be to our advantage, but socially it was often very hard and I know I hated being so "different".
It wasn’t that I thought being white was better but I knew that at the minimum it sometimes would’ve meant being left alone, not targeted for hatred.

@bijouxbroussard I’m sorry you had to experience that. Your last sentence resonated with my reason, I was worried about being targeted.

I'm glad you're somewhere on the other side of the spectrum as far as all the internalised beliefs go. It's a tricky one to unlearn when in the same kind of environment

I am so glad you have come to self-acceptance. Colorism among women of color is a huge problem worldwide, and some of them perform harmful skin-bleaching upon themselves.
Loving yourself in your OWN beautiful skin, as God made you, is the first step to wisdom.

At least you've come to your senses on the earlier side of life.
I know many who haven't.

Nah, never be ashamed of where you came from or who you are.
AngelUnforgiven · 51-55, F
That's extremely sad and heartbreaking on so many levels.

I have a whiteness problem. I wanted to look more white. I just like my look sometimes I say to myself. I'm handsome and sometimes I say to my self I'm ugly.

More than fine ☺

@Gabber Those feelings can happen to anyone.
Gabber · 22-25, F
@MrBrownstone Of course, not doubting that. Just glad I’m past that.

@Gabber You are rather young so I would say don't worry about trying to blend in. Be yourself. Not everyone is going to like you.

Being white really isn't a problem-solver either.
Ferise1 · 46-50, M
Yeah, it’s great to be white
