I never realized while it was playing

That the SNL skit, The Chruch Lady was in response to the silliness of the Satanic Panic.

I think I wasn't really aware of the panic when it was happening.

I remember my friend that I went to church with telling me that we shouldn't use Proctor & Gamble products because they worship Satan. I think I was 9 at the time.

I remember going to see Mike Warnke perform. I thought as a comedian he was funny, but I never really associated him with any panic.

I look back now and realize the panic was all around me, yet I was oblivious to it. Lol

My stepmother was all to happy to jump on that wagon. Especially the Dungeons & Dragons, which we just played at somebody else's house.

@Levenrack Oh yeah, I heard about that too, but my neighbor down the street was super cool and she was playing D&D back when it first started in the 70's and well into the Satanic Panic era. I would have never said that was Satanic, even back then. Sandy was too awesome to worship him. I'm certain Satan worshipped her!

@FoxyQueen Yeah I have no doubt of that, especially the ones that were really nice about it. Those are the ones you need to avoid at every level. 😁

@FoxyQueen We started running it with our cousin in the late '80s. After about a year, he shut it down.

After freshman year, my brother and I got four other like-minded individuals from school together.

We all became good friends and stayed that way for several years after graduation. On top of the ordinary daily stuff, we did gaming, concerts, vacations, camping, and Packers, Brewers, and one Bucks game.

Eventually, everyone started doing their own things as life happens, and drifting apart.

@Levenrack For real! Table top gaming bring people together to work as a team! And it often creates life long friends!

@FoxyQueen Yeah, it can. After my divorce, two work buds, who were really into TTRPGs, asked me to run a monthly session. Oh, wouldn't you know it? My calendar just got a whole lot clearer. 😁 We started playing right before Covid hit and played for about 3 years.

Unfortunately, right about that time, my mental health was getting the best of me, and I really couldn't run any RPG games anymore.

As my life started faltering, one of those guys decided to try his hand at owning a hobbies and gaming store on Main Street in Medford, WI. It's still there since the last time I was there. I still try to pop in to help him out when I can. ☺

@Levenrack That's fantastic!! I'm still friends with people I played Champions and Gurps with when I was in my 20's :)

@FoxyQueen I know of Gurps more than the HERO stuff, but I have never tried either.

The only other system we played regularly was the White Wolf/World of Darkness stuff.

@Levenrack I started TTRPG with The Lord of the Rings RPG and the ICE heros system. Then I played Gurps, which was fine since it was set up a lot like Champions. Then I got into EarthDawn, which was kind of a confusing system.

I made characters for the White Wolf system, but never actually played.

I also played a very little of ShadowRun which was also a lot of fun, but hard to play at times because of the occupations. If you were a hacker, you really didn't get much play because it left the majority of the rest of the party out.

@FoxyQueen I played a Shadowrun one-shot at Gen Con, when it was still in Milwaukee. I wasn't impressed with it and I know exactly what you're referring to with the Decker.
