I prefer people who like themselves, over people who dislike themselves. What I've found is actually that people will tell you a lot of true things about themselves if you listen; when someone repeatedly says they're a terrible person, it often turns out to be true. We are so busy making excuses for people that we don't take them seriously when they tell us who they are, and then we get surprised when they screw us over in the end.

@Nightwings I do make excuses for people when they try to tell me that they're not a good person, because they just demonstrated the understanding that a human being can only be so "good". By some standards we're all terrible.

@SinlessOnslaught I think we often mistake a person's ability to realize that they are wrong, with the actual intend and ability to be better.
I disagree that everyone is terrible by some standard, I met plenty people who were just kind in all ways.

@Nightwings I see...

I don't think it matters. We are what we are and our perception of our value is not going to change that.
Best to accept who we are and enjoy our time here. Plus it's a lot less work

@Infamous607 The person who comes to mind does accept it and yet they still say it.

@SinlessOnslaught if we are what we are then we are just as we are supposed to be. So in a way we are perfect the way we are. I just have to be that.
Saying I'm good enough for me imply there is a bar someone or something else set up for me and against which I measure myself.
Its like saying..
"I might not be great, or perfect, of ok, or barely tolerable but by God I am enough.
😊
Just talking having a beer.

Gotta be a little delusional before it starts vomitting into reality. That's why even when I'm insecure about something I try not talk about it a lot.

@HijabaDabbaDoo Well yes but in terms of behavior?
HijabaDabbaDoo · F
@SinlessOnslaught well for one you're breaking free from self ingrained, self limiting behaviours and reactions and replacing them with actions aligned to your desired self. You'll see that in your behaviour with more effective decision-making and healthier relationships.

@HijabaDabbaDoo Makes sense

Where the second group is mistaken is that other people don't have to see it, just YOU do.
SinlessOnslaught · M
@ArkBallet It's more complicated than that because most of the people who think they're not enough are closer to perfect than most will ever be.
ArkBallet · 36-40, F
@SinlessOnslaught Then maybe they just need someone stubborn enough to make them notice it.

They are enough.
The person they love just doesn't appreciate them.
