Can you share an a belief you once held strongly that changed after you encountered new information or experiences? What led to that shift

I was a Christian, largely with catholic background growing up. I am now an atheist.

My shift took place over the course of several years. So it's hard to point to any one piece of information as being what changed my belief, but more of a process of asking questions and realizing the things I had thought were answers really weren't.

I was also a Libertarian at one point. I always leaned towards social liberty more than economic liberty but I valued both. I started going to Libertarian party meetings. When I was just online all of the literature seemed good to me. But in person it was just a bunch of people who hated taxes and regulations and didn't really care about any of the other stuff. That was enough of a shock to make me question my positions there. Learning more about how property rights and markets interact made me realize that free markets could not simultaneously exist with private property rights. Eventually people successful in the free markets will grow and form monopolies based on private property scarcity and then leverage those rights to shut down competition.

So now I am a Libertarian leaning leftist.

I joined a new church about 12 years ago, and I was sooo happy with the people and the love bomb they poured over me...and then, as soon as I was baptized, the same people began to treat me VERY differently. No more love bomb.

The belief I had, (which changed), was that all of these people were wonderful and cared about me, and then I realized that they did not.

Certain people I felt I could trust and then that trust was broken.
Everything. What happened? I grew up.
