You can do this, you've done it before so you know you can do it again.

@AntisocialTroll what if they like alcohol, but they just want to get their drinking under control. Like, when I started cigarettes, I got very, disgustingly, badly addicted to it. You don't even want to imagine how bad. But with time, Allah taught me how to manage it. Trust me, when you are addicted like that, only divine intervention can help you. But I would suggest never giving up hope.

@nobodyishome The post clearly indicates a desire to be sober again. Not all of us need a god to do that.

@nobodyishome it’s great that works for you, but each person is different… and sobriety is such a personal journey where people find what works best for them and how to navigate

@WaryWitchWandering ja, that's what I meant. Thanks for putting it into your words.

@AntisocialTroll From personal experience, trust me, you don't want Allah to abandon you. Would be fun to watch when he does.

@nobodyishome what I’m saying is, not everyone is religious… also sobriety indicates dropping whatever substance completely. People who have alcohol use disorder can’t simply gain control of their drinking, it’s an all or nothing type of deal. At least it is in my case. Every time I have tried to revisit alcohol and “moderate” I end up drinking way too much/often again. I decided to simply forego that first drink from here on out, and so now it’s not a problem. It’s not easy but taking it day by day and actively deciding each day not to drink is what works for me. Also realizing it’s a poison, and only triggers massive anxiety and makes everything worse for me.

It’s been just under 6months since my last slip up.

@WaryWitchWandering That's not easy. Trust me. Way to go.

@WaryWitchWandering A biggg warm hug to you.

@WaryWitchWandering But I like cigarettes too much, and didn't want to give em up or don't plan to. So Allah helped me manage it better, and focus my drive also on other things. More worthy, I guess.

@AntisocialTroll I will do even better the next time. I was going to try and count how many years I've been sober but I've honestly lost count so if I have to guess it's probably 5 or 6. I'll try to reach that again

@wackidywack That's a good attitude. Try talking to someone who knows about this struggle before you are tempted to take that first drink. Luckily things weren't fully disastrous. People die from this.

@wackidywack super impressive!
