People born before the 2000s, how do you feel about the way the world has changed?

Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
There's no doubt the world has advanced significantly in terms of technology and medical advances.
But it's also true that not all of it is beneficial.

Many diseases have been effectively eradicated.
Good news for most but not so for those refusing to vaccinate so keeping the threat of outbreak a very real prospect, thus a potential threat to all of us.

Technology has given us the chance to communicate with our loved ones across vast distances.
But has also created the 'Troll'. Whether it be an anonymous online menace or a modern day boss refusing to leave their workforce alone in their downtime.

And strange how one is deemed unacceptable but the other considered fair.

Someone said people proudly post things today that 25 yrs ago would of been ashamed of what they did.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@2ndtimeguy People used to think it silly to take pictures of themselves. In the movie "National Lampoon's Europen Vacation", Clark Griswald takes a selfie and people laughed.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
@2ndtimeguy Narcisim used to be something to be ashamed of, now people revel in it.

Having had parents that were born in Europe just between WWI and WWII, I have to use that as a comparison.

You see neither of my parents had a real formal education. Mom never out of the third grade and my father never went to highschool. Yes trade school apprenticeship, yet even that wasn't a formal education.

I remember once my father figured out by himself what a cube was mathematically. He was amazed by something that I learned in junior high!

Mom never believed that man made it to the moon. Yet she herself was working on insulation parts that sent each of those early spaceships out into space!

She didn't even believe the Gemini rockets made out to space!

Mom during WWII lost two kids over starvation! She had two other miscarriages because of German exploratory surgery. Yes she was experimented on. I wasn't supposed to be born because of that!

While my father was in a prison camp, slowing dying himself from starvation! When he escaped after believing to have killed the guard that wasn't much better feed. He reached Italy at the end of the war. Weighing in at 90lbs there!

Now do the compassion!

There's no way that I can! 🤷🏻‍♂️
I haven't began to say the rest!

I haven't gone through a fraction of what either of them did! And I haven't had an easy life myself!

The best I can say is that our quality of life has improved. And perhaps that we are no longer quite as inhumane.

Yet that doesn't mean we as people can not lose everything that we have gained.

Life is precious! Life is change!
It's horrible. People are mean, and nobody cares about anyone but themselves anymore.

Scams everywhere. Deplorable people with deplorable ideas and values. Nothing is sacred anymore. Everything is for sale, including people's respect for themselves.

Nobody has any class or manners anymore. Many people on this earth are just a waste of life. The quantity of people has gone up, but the quality has gone down.

I could go on and on.

@MsSwan Yes our culture is degenerate.
robertsnj · 56-60, M
Feel about it/?

It is going th happen regardless of if I like it or not For the pieces I don't care so much about it, I feel apathtic towards and just dont' indulge. I guess some things i don't like but not sure my opinion matters. For instance on social media. It is there and great for some poeple but it is largely invisible to me.

What I like

advances in medince
improvement in hardware technology (computers)
improvement in software technology
implimentation of web based applicaitons (like this place!)
increase in world ecoomoci activity due to advances in supply chain
religion diminishing in America (because it useless)
a lot of the scientifc discoveries in biology and physics / though I am not that smart in either.
I like have to drive less for work.
sub cultures being more prominent - I don't belong to one but I like they have a better voice

What I don't like
impact of global warming earth and species extension from it
Sometimes the work world feels too fast--I am adopting but sometimes it is hard
The impact the oligopoly culture for business in our economics
How detached our federal and even statement goverments are from the communties they serve
How covid changed he world. Ironicallly micro biologists, experts in virology and others predicted we wouldn't be ready for the a major pandemic

What I am apathic to (don't indulge in)
social media
a lot of the slang / abberations in English I just skipped over
Music trends--another old guy who isn't a fan of the kiddos music
movie trends. lack of depth in the writing inspired apathy from me
theme park enhancements. I realized they evolved but I don't feel it mattered to me
auto enhancements / not a car dude or a big driver--I have a car and use it when I have to

I could probably add to this later

It's getting worse by the decade. I'll be surprised if it lasts another one.
JimboSaturn · 51-55, M
There are many good things that have happened in my life. What worries me is the dumbed down culture, entitlement, moving away from science and reason, online algorithms polarizing people and people ignorant or forgetting the past.

Depressing

The great years have gone

The worlds gone crazy
ChipmunkErnie · 70-79, M
Disappointed. Born in 1950, I grew up hoping/expecting we'd be moving forward in Civil Rights, into Space, etc., etc. -- instead I'm looking as a USA where my son may end up living in a dictatorship.

I didn't like people before then so don't really care now
Give me a cat any day

@MsSwan that's kind of sexy
robertsnj · 56-60, M
love your questions SW Questions. this is way too broad though . wish it was closer to "what is one thing that changed that had an impact on you" or something along those lines.

But if we are broad-brusing this I think the world chanes and so it is. Most of it have adopted to pretty well from technogy to personal economic trends.

The advances in heatlhcare and phrama's reach on treating and extending life has been amazing. and i somewhat feel guilty at how much I will benefit from that .
wonkywinky · 51-55, M
In my life it hasnt changed at all.I still say forbidden words that we all know in reference to other people, such as Gypsies etc.
Or "Man","Woman".I firmly believe that there are only two sexes.Im still baffled why suddenly theres supposed to be 57 or something.I believe in stable marriage of Man and Woman before God.I believe in petrol cars, and coal fired energy, producing reasonable priced energy.
Greta Thunberg only exists as a kind of fantasy id like to enjoy,
No,in my pre-2000 world the sun shines everyday.
Nayla · 51-55, F
It’s quite scary tbh
It really didn't change. WWII was fascism defeating communism and the west never intended to let us have peace or democracy, and it really did kill socialism.
akindheart · 61-69, F
in some respects, it is good and in others it is really bad. the world has changed dramatically.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
It has definitely changed and not for the better.
AthrillatheHunt · 51-55, M
I was promised flying cars by now .
@AthrillatheHunt And hover boards.
MasterLee · 56-60, M
The liberals have destroyed everything.
AlchemyFox · 36-40, F
Yikes. But that's what life is.
DDonde · 31-35, M
From my perspective, I think that the most dramatic and impactful change (within my lifespan) has been widespread casual internet usage and communication and how it has become a staple of modern life. There are social and political consequences to this that we haven't really learned how to deal with yet.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
Its much darker, colder, shallow.
People had more morals and stood for something of substance then. And were more balanced and well spoken. Technology and social media has homogenized humanity and made us less human. The mindset is not the same.
Hmmmmm. 🤔

@Zonuss I tend to agree with this. We are watched continuously by at Tic - toc and the like.. iOur choices are made for us by Amazon recommendations. Political groups target us on Facebook..
Sainsburys builds a profile of us by Nectar cards.

Even if here people monitor the number if times you visit their posts, and abuse you.

@MsSwan they are the ones that don't like others voicing their own opinions.

It seems to be another sick trend.
