When The Bombing of Hiroshima is mentioned,

I can't help but feel very sad. Sad to the point where I can't explain enough. It's already devestating enough to think about... All those people, blown to smithereens...

Not trying to minimize it, but the fire bombing of Tokyo, the fire bombing of Hamburg, and the bombing of Dresden were worse than Hiroshima. They just were not done by a single bomb. The fire bombing of Tokyo in particular is the most destructive single night in human history.

@TheEmperor but to get to the point better, there is no question that the development of the atomic bomb was a major event in human history, and Hiroshima signifies that. Now a nation could, with a single bomber airplane, destroy entire cities at will. The US could have conquered it he world if it wanted to. Good thing the Germans or soviets did not get it first.

It’s was an horrible event. I blame the Japanese high command, though. They were beat, knew it, and refused to surrender.

@Bumbles I did say, "probably."

@Bumbles How are they responsible when they didn't want to lose their Emperor?
It's the USs' fault for not wanting to understand.

@Xalvadora Their empower worship is irrelevant and they didn’t lose him anyway.

killing civilians always has and always will be a warcrime... no matter how you try to justify it

The decision to do such of thing must have been hard
Bumbles · 51-55, M
@SW-User The decision not to do such a thing would have been nearly impossible for Truman who had been in the office for a very short period of time and was dealing with FDR's tremendous shadow. After the Japanese defense of Okinawa an invasion of the Japanese homeland would have caused tens of thousands of American casualties. Given the destruction of so many Japanese cities already, it was actually closer to a no-brainer.
