Yes. Somebody I loved and trusted made my life difficult and dangerous for many years.
I have recovered, physically from the injuries she caused. But it has made me feel I don't think I'll ever have another relationship.

I understand completely. I've had nobody in my life since 1985 for this exact reason. When someone kills your ability to trust, they deserve no forgiveness.

I used to think so, but I guess forgiveness is the best way to move on so I am trying to forgive...it's not easy though. :/

@LittleRebz: you may have noticed I said if god exists. I don't know if there is or isn't a god. I do know that according to every religion I've ever heard about, there is a hell for people who are of the wrong religion. That is one of the unforgivable sins apparently. Jesus only saves if you're a Christian. You are bound for hell if you aren't Muslim. And so on with each religion.
My point is, there are those whom even God will not forgive. Why should I be expected to be better thanGod?
As for forgiving those who are truly sorry......I've heard what sounded like heartfelt begging for forgiveness, every few days and I forgave again and again, until I realize that's how I gave them permission to hurt me again.
I'm not a soul reader. I don't know when sorry is sincere. Let God or the universe sort that out. I never neither the right nor the desire to forgive evil. That's not my job. Neither is punishment. So the people who have caused untold, unknowable damage to my loved ones, get neither punishment nor forgiveness in this life, on this plain of existence.

@Serenitree: I am not telling you how you should be, all I said was I think forgiveness is the best way to move on, well for me it is the case anyway. I would rather forgive and remove grudges than continuously live with a grudge on my shoulders. I used to waste a lot of time thinking angrily about the people who have upset me, so personally it was best for MYSELF to move on by forgiveness. It might not be the best option for you in your eyes, but it is for me. Yes, some people say they forgive but continue to do wrong...but not everyone is like that so I always give someone a second chance if they want it. I could say a lot more about this topic but frankly, I am not interested in getting into a debate over this, sorry. :)

@LittleRebz: I do forgive people who have upset me. If I didn't, I'd be in a mental ward for life.
I'm not talking about upset. I'm talking about the rape of a two year old child. I'm not debating the issue either. I'm merely clarifying what I find unforgivable. I do hope you never have to discover if you could forgive someone you trusted for such an act.

I have allowed myself to be treated poorly over the years but now older & wiser I won't allow it anymore. I forgive everyone for everything they did to me because I love myself & won't allow them to effect me anymore.

I don't blame you for that. I know first hand about people that's like that
Yep, because the law and society allow them to be the biggest psycho bitch born once they marry. Never again.
I can't think of anyone. I don't really hold grudges.. I know how to hate people but it goes away almost as fast as it came.

I'm so glad for you. You're one of the lucky ones. I don't hold grudges either. Grudges are petty things. I do however reserve the right to let the universe decide if a child rapist should go to hell or not. As long as that person lives, he gets no forgiveness from me.

@Serenitree: yeah, you shouldn't let others decide for you.. and holding grudges only stops you from feeling better, it does not really add anything to your life.
