I'd get worried because he's either not showing his true self to manipulate me or because he's not comfortable enough with me do to so. Either way it's doomed. A nice balance is better.
BlueVeins · 22-25
At a certain point, it starts to feel very stressful because the implication is that I should be similarly sweet to them, which is extremely difficult.
HijabaDabbaDoo · F
Idk, too many compliments make me uncomfortable real fast, regardless of it being sincere or not
Number5 · 26-30, M
@HijabaDabbaDoo oh yeab too many compliments aint good
The only thing that matters is honesty and mutual respect and good will.
If someone is sweet and it's a ruse for seduction, then it's as disgusting as saccharin.
If someone is always a yes-person, always people-pleasing and not being honest, and doesn't operate from a sense of balanced equality, they are not going to be successful in relationships.
Equally, someone at the other extreme who is inconsiderate and domineering will be just as unsuccessful.
Both types will end up rejected.

@Number5 yup. I have genuinely wanted to do that for some people. I am a very loving sweet person. It’s in my nature. I do think you could go overboard and you shouldn’t do it if it’s fake. But it really depends on context and the situation I guess. You shouldn’t do it if it’s not reciprocated
Number5 · 26-30, M
@YoungPoet345 good point

When it gets overbearing yes it gets kinda weird ..

I’d hate it. A nice balance is better.
Number5 · 26-30, M
@Keepitsimple so how do you keep the balance?
By being mean every once in a while?

Nobody likes a push over or a dork. @Number5
@Number5 Nope.
Use "I statements" for honesty when something difficult needs to be said without causing offense.
E.g. - Instead of saying "you stink",
say, "I need to say something that you probably won't want to hear. I feel turned off when your breath smells of stale garlic. Would you be willing to abstain from garlic, or let me know when you're eating it so I can have some too?"
Check out NVC by Marshall Rosenberg. He explains it thoroughly. Once learned and absorbed so that it becomes an automatic way of communicating, it's easy to be both honest and open in any relationship without being hurtful or mean.

Great question 🤔
lancetroy · 31-35, M

summersong · F
I can’t handle it, seems fake or delusional.
Number5 · 26-30, M
@summersong so one should be a little mean every now and then too?
summersong · F
@Number5 just be real. Nobody is sweet all the time, it’s just not possible.
Number5 · 26-30, M
@summersong oh, gotcha!
YoungPoet345 · 26-30, F

Not a fan if we're not a thing.
I mostly just don't like it when people are not honest and genuine with me.

Too sweet like licking the floor so my feet don't get dirty is a huge turn off like that person has no options and is a loser or just wants anyone.
If the guy is strong has his own mind and does sweet things that is nice
